Reconditioned '92 6-sp coupe - recent award winner - Seattle
Here is probably the nicest '92 around...and certainly for the mileage! To that end, it just won 3rd place in the year end points championship for C4 class in NWACC (Northwest Association of Corvette Clubs). Considering that it was up against cars with 1/3 as many miles all summer, that's sayin' something.
I am only trying to sell it so that I can upgrade to a C5 or C6. I still love this car but the wife has mandated only one Vette at a time.
I am trying to figure out how I can get larger images hosted on the internet. These are from an ad on a different site.
You are viewing my 1992 6-sp targa coupe. It is bright aqua metallic with black interior and chrome sawblades. The current mileage is 93,6XX, that is less than 450 miles per month! This was the first year of the magnificent LT-1 300hp engine. My guess is that this car is around 320hp now with the minor modifications that have been made.
Factory options are:
Preferred Equipment Group #1 ($1333): Electronic A/C, Delco-Bose radio w/cassette (no longer in the car) & 6-way power driver's seat
Black leather buckets ($475)
Delco-Bose radio w/cassette and CD
Low pressure warning ($325)
6-way power passenger seat ($305)
California emissions ($100) - you will pass your emissions wherever you live!
The grand total (in 1992!) was $37119.00
Also keep in mind that this vehicle also has traction control and ABS.
Here is what I have done to it since I bought it:
1. Window tint
2. Flowmaster cat back exhaust - AWESOME sound and NO resonance
3. Kuhmo Ecsta SPT tires summer 2008 - should have only about 3K miles on them now
4. Restored the front bodywork 10-08 - I had a local bodyshop strip about everything from the doors forward and fill in all of the little pits, chips and scratches. They did a beautiful job with the paint work as well.
5. New slotted and drilled rotors, brake pads and stainless steel brake lines 6-09. Still carefully bedding them in, but what a huge difference in the pedal feel due to the brake lines!
6. Converted the seats to 1996 style (brand new) foam and leather. Bought the frames as well as they are different than 1992 and finished the conversion on 5-15-09.
7. Replaced the Delco-Bose system with a new CD/I-Pod head unit, 4 new speakers and a new amp in 4-08. Of course the entire system had to be re-wired as well. I believe that it was about $1400 for the new system. Replaced only because a 16 year old high-end system just doesn't sound that good any longer. I had even had the head unit completely reconditioned and bought 4 new amps for the speakers. Just wasn't great sound. It is now!
8. Replaced right seat power track assembly 9-06(?) - wouldn't move forward or back, works great now.
9. Upgraded to Sylvania Silverstar headlamps
10. Converted AC from R12 to R134a
11. New distributor (Opti-Spark), water pump, spark plugs and wires (7-06). Keep in mind I only drive the vehicle about 2500-3000 miles a year and only on warm sunny days.
12. K&N air filter
13. Remote security/alarm/entry system - 4-08. Approx 1500' range to arm and disarm the system. Also has a remote hatch release
14. Also has a CB radio which is easily removed if you are not interested. It is great for caravanning with local clubs.
15. Battery (spring '07?)
16. Mid-America custom fit car cover
17. Mid-America roof panel storage bag - heavy duty vinyl with soft interior to protect the finish
18. Left rear hub (5-09)
19. Dynamat in the doors and the floor. Added Dynamat to provide sound insulation in the doors and hear insulation on the exhaust/engine tunnel. You have never hear C4 doors sound so solid when they shut.
Mechanically it is in great condition. Engine is very strong. I have changed the oil about every 1500-2000 miles. I have had Mobil 1, Royal Purple and Castrol Syntec in it. Truthfully I haven't found any difference between them other than it ran a few (2-3) degrees cooler with the RP. The first time that I changed the oil I added a magnetic drain plug. Haven't found any shavings on it yet. In the interest of full disclosure, after about 30 minutes of steady running on the freeway in 6th gear the check engine light comes on and stays on until the vehicle is restarted. According to a Chev dealer in this area the lower restriction nature of the exhaust causes the exhaust gas sensor to slowly read out of spec content. There is nothing wrong, it's just not what the original exhaust system produced. It started the day that I had the exhaust installed, does not cause any drivability issues and goes away the next time that the car is shut off.
Transmission is smooth, positive and without any slippage. I average 20-22mpg on each tank. On the highway at a steady 65mph it gets 28-30mpg. You can expect low to mid teens around town depending on your driving style. I am not typically a high speed guy but I am a torque lover. I scoot away from traffic lights and on to freeways with enthusiasm...but to be honest, I don't think that I have ever had the car to wide open throttle and I know that I have never found the rev limiter.
Body is in great shape. There is a small crack in the left fender. Keep in mind that the fender is only the small portion behind the wheel that has the vents in it. When I bought the car it was apparent that when replacing the battery someone tightened down a screw too far and cracked the material. Really only noticeable if you are looking closely for defects. Has solid roof panel with a few fine scratches...the car is 18 years old after all.
I am an officer in the local Corvette club, www.classicalglasscorvetteclub.com. I take very good care of the car and am very serious about the brand and lifestyle. This was my first Vette and I will always love it. But, I am a tinkerer and there really is nothing left to do to this car. I am wanting to upgrade to a C5 so my baby has to go to make room.
At $12,000 I won't tell you that my loss is your gain, I am asking considerable money for a car of this year, but you are getting one hell of a good car for those dollars that needs absolutely nothing done to it. I would not be at all concerned about sending my wife or my mother cross country in the car tomorrow. I will accept offers but don't waste my time.
You will not be disappointed!
