I saw one in the flesh at Southwest Corvette Center's showroom when they were still open. It belonged to the owner's daughter and was in perfect condition. This is an absoluletly gorgeous color.
There were 4 made in 1986 and 87 of them in 1987. I see one of the '87's cruising near San Jose once in a while
You would be wrong... To prove this you will never find one in the Corvette Black Book or any production type referance book. They made a few pilot cars to test the paint I even saw the one that Bob Mc'Dorman has in his collection & that is where I learned the story. Copper Metallic was never offered to the public for sale other than 1994 they just ended up in private hands. Mostly to big money collectors like the McDorman.
One of these cars would be the ultimate rare Copper.

There are two 1987 verts in my area that are code 66 copper. Both have saddle guts and top. I verified one of them and it is not the medium brown. I will try to get a photo the next time I see one. One is in very good condition, the other shows its age. This colour is not the same as the 1994 code 66 copper. It is darker and closer to a bronze/orange similar to the Daytona Sunset Orange on the C6. In 1988 code 66 was indeed a pilot colour with 5 built under the new name of dark orange. I saw two at a dealer in South Carolina in late 1987, one coupe and one vert. I should have bought the vert.
I almost bought a 1994 vert in copper with black guts and top new in Phoenix, AZ. The reason I let it go then was none of the body panels matched in colour. Hindsight being 20/20 I would have overlooked that issue knowing what I know now.
FYI the Black Book (2009 edition) lists 87 code 66 copper produced for 1987 and 4 code 66 copper for 1986 and 5 pilot cars in code 66 dark orange for 1988.

As verified above, the Corvette Black Book does list code 66 Copper Metallic in 1986 & 1987. And as I stated, I've seen one of the 1987's a few times

I must be a big money collector. Hmm. Never knew it. Second car in.
very real 87 vert. 1 of 35
Lucky you ,I stand correcetd to a point as I have never seen the 94 color on another year for production. The 94 seems to have more of a orange hue to it. I wish I would have kept mine oh here we go LoL
Trust me, you know how many people walk past it at shows and mudder "thats been re-shot..." Even had arguments with people at Carlisle that that isnt an original color. Gave up now some time ago. Ive only seen pics of one other convertible on the interenet and the 87 coupe that was recently for sale. Never seen another like it in person. There is/ was a Dark Red Metalliac 87 Callaway on eBay that they were advertising as the "Only" Orange Copper metalliac Callaway ever made. I asked him for the paint color code and never heard back, but you could clearly see from the pics it was much redder and much darker. Funny the only other vert I saw had the wood grain int. kit in it.

Your car is the exact combo of the two I've seen here. Are you in Florida by any chance? It's been a few years since they've been seen. I think they have both been sold to someone out of the area. The rough one sold twice within a year. I thought about grabbing it because of the rarity of the colour but it required more work, including paint, than I wanted to put into it. I would really like to see an 87 and a 94 side by side. I'm pretty sure the 94 is a lighter copper.
To the OP, best of luck on your sale. It should sell pretty quick.
Coupe & Convertible @ 20th Lone Star Corvette Classic
In May of 2009 at The 20th Lone Star Corvette Classic at Texas Motor Speedway, there was a "Copper" Coupe and a "Copper" Convertible side by side. Will Cooksey, Jr signed both cars and believe you me the cameras were popping. This was a rare event and to have Will there was way rare. I know both of the owners as fellow club members, and the Coupe owner is my Brother. What a Rare Sight, but if you look around the Dallas area you just may see them together.
I would really be interested in more information on your 1994 Copper Metallic Coupe. I will give you my e-mail address so we can get in touch.
I would really like to see some pictures and find out the mileage on the Vette.
Thanks, Eran
i just sold my 87 copper metallic 2 years ago, original paint.thought it was sunset orange until i researched it.there really was 87 built in 87.had a greenwood kit on it. they still dont bring much money like any c4.i can email pics if you dont believe it
