First, I'd like to say hello. I'm a new member here.
Over the past several months I have been looking into getting my dream car; a corvette. I do not have the funds to purchase a car with cash right now, thanks to college. But I do have my 1986 Camaro Z28. I'm basically looking to see if my car is worthy for a trade. I'm not really sure if I even want to trade my car because of it's sentimental value. Anyways, here is what I have:
1986 Camaro Z28
Purchased July 20th, 2004. This car came with the LG4 305 engine (carburated with electronic controled timing), BW 5 speed transmission and a 3.23 posi rear (4 wheel disc brakes also). The car has ttops and almost every luxury option available. It has power driver's seat, power mirrors, power locks, power windows, rear cargo shade, rear cargo cover, factory tinted windows, fog lights, overhead console, 145 mph speedometer, AC.
I was 17 when I purchased this car (after nearly a year and a half of looking for what I wanted: 5 speed and ttops). This is the second 3rd generation Camaro I have owned. The car had the air conditioning removed, a ACCEL HEI distributor, Edelbrock Performer intake, and an Edelbrock Performer 500cfm carburator. The car had approx 94.5k miles. It was not winter driven and was in good shape.
From there I purchased new parking lamps and fog lights, IROC rims and Nitto NT450 tires.
The car was stored in the winter until the following summer (2005) when I purchased Hooker shorty headers, Hooker y pipe, and a Hooker super competition catback exhaust. I also installed a set of Eibach Sportline springs and polished the IROC rims.
Again, the car was stored in the winter and I went away to college (ahh! ). That fall (2005), I found a new motor for the car. I found a guy selling a 1978 400 small block, 2 bolt main. It was a 509 high nickel block, the most desierable production block. I immediatly purchased it. This motor is a 400 small block bored .060 over, creating displacement of 412 cubic inches. It has dished pistons creating a compression ratio of 8.5:1. It has ported 882 casting heads, Lunati max lift springs, Edelbrock Performer camshaft and gear driven timing. It also had a Holley Street Dominator intake and Holley 750 cfm vac secondary carb. I bought a set of Crane Gold Roller rockers for it. The purchase of the motor also got me an aluminum radiator and Holley Red Electric fuel pump.
So in the Spring of 2006, after school was done, I started the install. Once the motor was in I completly removed all of the AC and heater (blower) components on the firewall (heater core is still in the car). I also purchased a new Holley Red inline fuel pump, GM Performance Parts ministarter, a new flywheel, braided fuel lines from Earl's, and a bunch of other odds and ends I'm sure I've forgotten. The motor runs good and now has maybe 1 to 2k miles on it. I also put a new stainless steel 4th gen Magnaflow catback on the car. I had a shop put it on since it needed some adjustment to fit correctly. It sounds awesome. The car's milage now clocks in at under 101k. I've only put a little over 6k miles on it since I have owned it. I have washed the car weekly (I'm pretty into her). I also purchased an SS hood for the car due to the fact that the street dominator intake doesn't fit under the stock hood. I plan on having the hood painted this spring. (At the end of this summer I put the Edelbrock Performer intake on the 400 so I could run the stock hood. Once the SS hood is painted, the Dominator will go back on.)
I think that's everything, but it's probably not. The car has been great and I feel I would regret getting rid of it, but I think for the right Corvette it would be alright. i'm not really looking for a trailer queen Corvette but just something that I can drive, mod, and enjoy. I'd like to invite you to my website, where I have some information that is probably less detailed that what I just told you. But there are pictures. I also have a video clip of the exhaust. Paint and interior I would rate 8 and 8, out of 10. The car is not a show car, but definitly is one of the best looking third generation Camaros in my town, hands down. The car always draws compliments from people. Thank you for your time.
While I think you're looking for a C4, I urge you to take this post and put it into C4 General Section, and pose it as a question. Such as: does this make sense? Or, is my car worth enough to allow me to afford a Vette? Or some such. This isn't the right section , in my opinion, and you may not get much response to it.
Not only is there an "Other Cars" section but there's also an F-Body section to the forum....should probably try there...this is for people that are seriously buying or selling C4's.
If you don't have the cash and are talking straight up trade, you'd probably better re-post here w/ a "WTT '85Z28 for early C4", or something like that. IMO, you're probably looking, at best, at an 84-85 model.
then go for a late C 3 vette or 86 C 4. These will be high mileage cars and I suggest you check in this foreum on the deal before you jump. LOTS of knowledge in here.
