Hello all. I just wanted to give CF a chance at my baby before I stick it on ebay.
Here are the particulars:
1985
Polo Green (not the original color)
Gray leather interior
113k miles
Z-51
Auto tranny
Dana 36 2.73 rear
good A/C
The interior is in decent overall shape. The rear carpet is faded; the front carpet is good; the driver's left lower seat bolster is worn; there is a ~1" tear on the passenger seat headrest; the door panel carpets need to be replaced, but the panels themselves are decent. There is a small amount of water leakage at the left and right top corners of the A-pillars (where the Targa top meets the windshield). The driver's window is slow to go up/down, but has been like this for quite awhile (it's not something that will suddenly quit tomorrow). The plastic bezels have the normal cracks around a couple of the screw holes.
The dashboard is perfect (no cracks), the digital display all works, but the oil pressure is stuck on 80 psi and the tripometer won't reset. The "hi" setting on the fan switch does not work, but it blows fine on all other settings. The console and armrest are both fine. I also have new, "Corvettte" embroidered floor mats for the front and rear.
The Vette has a Pioneer CD player (I don't have the model #, but it's got the OEL display), Pioneer 4x6 coaxials in the dash and 5 1/4" coaxials in the doors. In place of the 6x9s are two 10" Kicker Comp subs connected to an Infinity 100x2 RMS Digital amp. The amp is not currently hooked up.
The body, overall, is good. There are two areas of interest to make note of: above the driver's rear fender has an old repair (done before I bought the vehicle) that is coming loose under the paint and need to be re-repaired. On the passenger's side halo the paint has slowly bubbled out and broken off over the last few years and there is a hairline crack running down the doorjamb a few inches. Again, not a major issue, and the pics will show this in detail. Otherwise, the paint is good and shiny. It is not the original color, but it is a beautiful color. Some of the weatherstripping is in great shape (windshield, doors), some needs replacement (targa sides/rear, halo).
Mechanically the Vette is great. The transmission shifts firm and doesn't leak, and the differential seems to be in good shape. All the accessories work fine - A/C blows cold (it's been converted to R134a), power steering pump was replaced a few thousand miles ago, as was the electric fan (which is hooked up to a manual switch), and the Modine radiator. Both headlight motors have been replaced with the newer (and much more reliable) '88+ OEM motors (this upgrade cost about $1000 alone). Nothing leaks anywhere, and it's average operating temp range is about 180*-190*
The suspension is fine. It has all of the original equipment - Bilstein/Delco shocks, springs, wheels, etc. The Z51 is a factory option that gives the vehicle higher springs rates, upgraged shocks (the Bilsteins), faster steering ratio, and a few other features that I can't immediately recall. The tires have about 50%+ tread left.
I recently replaced the engine. As you may know, GM used a flat tappet cam/lifter setup until 1986, when they switched to a roller cam/lifter setup. The short block in my Vette now is a factory roller cam block. It was not bored, just honed, so it still retains its 350 CID. The list of engine components is as follows:
Open air lid w/ K&N filter
Descreened MAF (fins still intact)
BBK 52mm TB
Lingenfelter/Accel Large Tube Runners
TPIS Big Mouth intake
Breathless Adj. Fuel Pressure Regulator
Lucas 24 lb. injectors
AFR 190 Aluminum heads straight plug with the larger spring diameter upgrade (1.530" O.D.)
Harland Sharp RRs
Note: The EGR system is gone, therefore you may not pass an emissions test. Keep this in mind if your state has emissions laws.
The engine has had Mobil One in it since break-in. It is set up for a dual-filter/oil cooler system, but I never hooked it up. I do have the front mounted engine oil/transmission fluid cooler mounted, and the transmission is hooked up to it. I've never had a problem with the oil getting hot, so I never saw the need in hooking up the engine oil lines to the cooler.
I have a lot of the factory parts stored (stock exhaust manifolds, emissions gear, and other misc items), so you will inherit them with the purchase of my Vette. I also have a Wolf NOAH cover, purchased through the CF Store, that I will include as well.
Looking at the whole picture, this car is a great driver. It runs well, is a bit on the loud side due to the exhaust and engine mods, but is solid and has never failed me. The idle is slightly lopey, but nothing that's aggravating. The engine does take about a minute to warm-up from being completely cold before it will idle on it own. Some basic tuning should cure this if it's an issue. It never bothered me. It's very powerful, but not so quick that it will get away from you, thanks to the 2.73 gears. I've never had it on a track, so I don't have any time slips. Even with the cosmetic flaws, it looks good and is presentable as-is. It is not a cherry, and will take a bit of work to get it restored. I've owned this car for over 6 years, and it's time for me to move on. It did not sustain ANY damage from Hurricane Katrina - it was parked in my carport with my wife's truck and my other car "defending" it. Since my focus has turned toward improving/fixing my home, I don't get to drive it or play with it like I used to, and I hate to just see it sitting.
I would like to sell it quickly, but I'm not in any dire financial need, so I will not entertain any low-ball offers. I will happily entertain reasonable offers though. I'm asking $6900, which is almost the amount I paid just in parts for my baby (do the math). I've put a lot of time and effort into her and I hate to see her go, but I don't want to watch her rot in my driveway. At least somebody else can experience the same pleasure and enjoyment that I have these last few years.
You are welcome to pay for somebody to come inspect it, but any inspections will need to be done after 5:00 pm Mon-Fri. Weekends are ok, just give me a heads-up so I can plan accordingly. The buyer (you) must arrange for all shipping. I can meet you within 70 miles of 39402.
