I am going to sell a 93 convertible to buy a C5 to go traveling in. My 93 is red on red with a white top. LT1 automatic with 21,700 original miles and carfax certified non hit car. Car is absolutely beautiful and is as clean underneath and the engine bay as it is outside. It is original with only a fuzz buster and wheels chromed. Have a full bra and expensive car cover if wanted. I am going to ask $19,000. Car is located 35 miles out of Minneapolis/St. Paul. This car could be on a dealers showroom.
Just checking to see what people think. Is my asking price of $19,000 seem too high? This is a very, very nice red convertible. I would rather have a coupe so my wife and I could go traveling in. If I can't sell outright, I am considering trading it in on a 99 silver coupe.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what a car that is in this great of shape would be worth on a trade? You could also call me at 651-248-9803. I someone would like to see pictures, i could try send them.
Thanks
Retz if you trade it in you will get hammered. Ask for a clean deal price, then mention the trade to get what they are REALLY willing to give you.
I also agree with chucks88, 11k-13k In my humble opinion.
(you've already gotten some very gentle, bad news from the above posters. Here's some follow on advice that may be of some value to you I hope.)
Now's a great time to be advertising a convertible in the Twin Cities. If I were you, I'd advertise it immediately, as in this Thurs. and Friday (plus the weekend) in the newspaper, autotrader.com (not autotrader the newspaper), and make sure you refer to a cell phone # that you keep with you wherever you are, day and night (and turned on as well). If you want to be ultra safe, be ready to show the car by taking it to a meeting with a potential buyer at a local parking lot (store, mall, shop. ctr., etc.) which may be close to your house.
As to price, I think you're high, but check the various places (such as autotrader.com and cars.com, kbb.com, nada.com, and edmunds.com). Regardless of what is posted in these various "value" columns such as edmunds, your car is worth whatever anyone is willing to pay on any given day. If you wait two weeks, it could be worth more. Two weeks ago, it could've been worth less, or vice versa.
If you really want to get the worst price possible, trade it in on a new or newer vehicle. That should make you cry. Sorry about that, but it is what it is. Good luck and don't wait too long.
Edmunds, Kelly BSBook, are useless for Corvette valuation. It all turns on the local market supply of similar pre-owned Vettes, and of course, the emotional response of the potential buyer.
Thanks for all the input. This forum is fantastic. This car almost sold twice at $18 but instead both backed out for almost new Vettes. I lowered price to $18.5 OBO and it is in carsoup.com in MN. The best part of some toys is if you may need to sell but do not have to sell. If anyone has any interest, give me a call at 651-248-9803 (cell) and I would be happy to talk. Going to take it to Galena, Ill next weekend for Vette convention. Thanks again, C4 owners I believe are the best.

The problem is, these sources of car values are used by BUYERS just as much as they are used by sellers. That means that the buyers will be using their numbers when they make offers.......like it or not.

Yes, true. But eventually, buyers and sellers have to come together on a price. Otherwise, no sale. And eventually, there is a sale. Most of the time.
And yes, I understand that buyers use low numbers (or lower than asking numbers) and seller use higher numbers (sometimes understanding that they may have to come down some).
In that respect, Lone R. is probably correct: all these "guides" have not as much knowledge about the sale prices of Corvettes. And that it is probably more dependent on the local market.
And as has been said, that one buyer, the one who will pay X! The one we all look for!!!!!
For a convertible in excellent condition and with low miles this time of the year you should get $16K no problem, The problem is you most likely will not get it on this Forum advertise it elsewhere and you will sell it. Most people on here are fishing at best(Buyers that is) and will low ball you or you get the "I would buy it in a second BUT...." Think logically here a 93 anything CONVERTIBLE with low miles and in excellent condition this time of year would get $13K now put in that it is a Vette you have to ad on $3K or more for that, Right? Go to other areas to advertise it (local papers, area forums, etc.) On here there are too many experts and they will nit pick you too death because they know so much about Vettes and what they are worth(yeah we all know so much LOL!!) Good Luck in your sale
Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate it. Thought I would run one last ad in case someone has any interest in this beautiful red convertible. Price $17,000.
Dealer would give me $15000 on a trade for a $22,500 99 vette coupe with 56,000 miles. Mine was nicer, seemed tighter, and I know just as dependable. Can send a few pictures if interested. Thanks everyone.
Got down payment on my convertible last night. Might I please remind people, sell your car for what you think it is worth or for what you would be willing to take for it. Do not always go by books. I got exactly what I wanted. A mature couple saw it, drove it, bought it on the spot.
I am now in the market for a coupe to go traveling in. My preference is now in the 95-99 year range. If someone has an automatic in the color of red, black, or silver (at least my initial preferences) send me a email or phone number to call. I would be interested in another year if it is in absolutely beautiful shape.
