WTB a 6 speed Vette under $8000
Searching for a 6 speed Vette for $8000 maximum. Must have under 100,000 miles and be straight. Red preferred. Thanks.

There was one here on a used car lot for darn close to that price - 89 ZF6, elec air, bose, NO fx3 though...
Needed tires and some minor cosmetics - Wonder if it sold??

Find the cleanest 88 ot 89 you can find because they are almost identical... and plentiful... Pick up a brand new ZF-6 from Tom Henry Chevrolet in Ohio... They have them for about $2200 plus shipping... Then get the tutorial on how to do the conversion... I have seen it posted a number of times in Corvette mags... Then pick up the extra parts that are needed... It will be a challenge... however... the personal satisfaction factor will also be right up there when your done...
Trans - $2200
Dual mass flywheel - $1000 but I have seen them brand new for $250
Clutch & pressure plate - $400
bellhousing - $200 ?
Hurst shifter - $125
Drive shaft - change lenth $300 ?
Master and slave & line - $400
To save money you might be able to buy some of the parts used... have seen used trans for $1000 in good shape before...
Just something to consider...
I found one for $5000 that needed a clutch with 86K on it... It still needs about $2500 to make it real nice... Items needed... seats, power seat track, steering wheel, stereo and a list of other minor items...
Another work in progress... It is my favorite C4 after a ZR1... Just had to have that digital dash again... The 88 & 89s have the revised suspension vs earlier C4s, etc... that is why I would stick with those years... I was lucky because it already had 91 facias on it... ok... I am done bragging... however... I guess it is not bragging if it is factual...

My '95 six speed IF I were to sell with 128,000 miles and Torch Red, would be $11,000 right now.
The car has a great history, much of it documented right here on the forum. That would get you my car without the AFS wheels and without the Baer brakes and harness bar, but I'm not selling anyway.

I have a 6 speed i will sell cheap, needs some TLC
I have a 90 6 speed. 92,000 miles with FX3 suspension. It runs and drives great. Great clutch and tranny. Newer tires but does need some work. It is a teal color with tan and black interior.
It has the power sport seats but they need new skins. Also needs new carpet, stereo needs fixed, AC needs charged. The hood is horribly faded and needs repainted. The right side also got keyed and needs repainted where it was keyed. Carfax shows the car has never been wrecked. I can email you pics if you are interested. I am only asking $6,200. If you can paint or have a buddy that does you could probably get this car in nice shape and not have more than the $8000 in it that you are wanting to spend.
Thanks,
Jon

It is resting comfortably in my garage
I found one on autotrader for with under 60,000 miles on it. NO, IT DOES NOT HAVE A SALVAGE TITLE. I drove it home from Nevada to Wisconsin this past weekend without any problem what so ever. If you are interested in viewing the add (which includes the asking price and the VIN) it was still listed on autotrader yesterday.
They are out there, you just have to search, search, search.

I looked at a 90' vert 6-speed in Atlanta today, asking $9k with 100k on the odo. It was in... less than desireable condition, smoked when fired up..."1 owner". Yeah, one owner who didn't take care of his vette!

It takes all kinds
There are all kinds of sellers out there. I don't understand those that are liars. Do they really think a guy will buy their car based on what they say, when they get there and see it?
I looked at one that was an original owner from Arizona, and sat it storage for 3 years. The lady told me it was a Christmas gift from her X-husband and she had moved to Illinios and didn't want to drive it on the bad roads there. She said it was in perfect shape. Perfect. With a brand new interior. And when I saw it, it was leaking oil badly from both valve cover gaskets, down a quart and a half, it was full of scratches, and the leather seats were ripped out and replaced with cloth. I couldn't here it run, because the battery was dead. When the owner went to jump it, a huge spark shot out of the alternator. Not my idea of perfect.
I lucked out on this car. Everything the owners told me was the gospel truth, they had a folder of maintance records that matched the CARFAX to a T. Very nice people. He even had the car taken to a Chevy dealer and gone over between the time I sent a downpayment and the time I picked it up. Like I said, it ran perfect for the 1,800 mile trip back to Wisconsin from Nevada.
I told him to let me know when he is ready to sell his next one.

That is the one!
Yes, that was the one. In fact it was owned by an F-16 pilot based out of there while he trained-up for his first year on the Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds sticker is still on the window and is staying there. Him and his wife are very very nice people.

I'm with you guys
With the negative comments I got (and even a picture of a needle in a haystack - which I will admit was very clever) after I initially posted, I was beginning to think this forum was composed of snobs.
Glad to hear you guys have some common sense, are realistic, and successfull!
There will always be sellers with circumstances that warrant the sale of their car. I was one of those 15 years ago. The instant my buyer got wind of my 1972, he called, and the deal was done.
Moral of the story: He who hesitates is lost. If you see one with potential, ask the right questions and if it sounds right-ACT NOW. Get on a plane if that is what it takes. I looked at it as an adventure. If the deal fell through, worse case scenario was a had an overnight in Vegas.

There are lots of folks that just cant seem to come to grips with the fall of C4 prices. Rather than fight and deny it, I say buy another one!! Its a buyers market.
