I am looking for a 11.0 inch rim to match my 88 rims, Is this possible?
I do like to keep my car stock looking on the outside, but since my winter mods will pump the power to around 400/450 at the crank, i would love a set of 11's out back!
The question is, Is it possible to get a set to match my stock rims, I still have the stock 88 17 inch rims!
From what I know only the few 89's came with the 11 inch 17 inch rims?
There was a set of "genuine" '89 ZR-1 rims on eBay a short time ago, but they where pricey (I think the Buy It Now price was something like $4,000US!). On occasion you can find genuine '89 11" rear rims at places like Bloomington or Carlisle, but as was mentioned they go for big money. Remember, there were only 84 ZR-1s built in '89 which means there where probably less than 200 or so sets ever made, most of which probably didn't make it out of the crusher, so they are very rare indeed.
The good news is that you can have two of your stock rims widened. The bad news is, there aren't too many places (especially in Ontario) that will attempt to do it. One place you could try is Precision Rim Repair (http://www.rim-repair.com/). I've had my '89 rims refinished by these guys a few years ago and they did an absolutely AMAZING job. If you visit them in person, ask them if Rudy still works there and tell him what you want. He's an ex-race car builder and an absolute master machinist - if there's anyone in Ontario that can do this, it's him!
Another place you could try is Carcone's (http://www.carcone.com/) on Bloomington Road in Aurora, in between Bayview and Leslie. I've had a set of '90 wheels refinished there and they do an equally amazing job as Precision Rim, but they tend to be more of a refinishing place as opposed to a custom machine shop. But if you go, ask to speak to Oliver - he's the CNC machine operator there. He's a really nice guy, and if you tell him what you want, and he'll be able to tell you if they can do it for you or not.
The one thing that I cannot stress enough, regarless of where you go make sure you tell the shop to TAKE THEIR TIME!!! A job like this is not one that can be rushed, especially if it's a shop that has never done this before (and they probably haven't). Tell them that the car has been put away for the winter and you're not in a rush for them back. Typically, for something like this, shops tend to be more receptive if they aren't rushed.
Good luck. And let us all know what happens - I was thinking about doing something like this a while ago. Now that you've brought the subject up, it's starting to cross my mind again.
1989 11 inch rims are out there, you just need to look and look and look. Figure $1500 to $2500 a set. Give yourself about 6 months to locate.

Very good price, but you still need the other. I look at it this way, how much do the crap wheels cost that everyone puts on their SUV's? $750 for something so seldom seen is not a bad price.
Yeah and I'll find it as well. Almost had one last month but was about 1 hour to late.
I will keep my eyes out for you. One other guy (Scoob?) found a pair one at a time. Like I said there are out there .
A few year back, before they were reproduced, mid-year wheels were going for something like $5000 a set of 5. And a heck of a lot more than hundered or so sets were made.
