I am thinking about converting my 91 Zr-1 to coilover springs. I have poly bushings, revalved Bilsteins, racing FX3 controller and some engine mods. I do a few autocross events each year and believe I am capable of doing the install and welding myself. Any advice would be appreciated.

great mod. the coil overs really enhance the handling, allow better suspension tuning, and eliminate the cross talk and rear end skittishness over bumpy corners. not that bad on the installation.

Lurker did a great post with pics a long time back. do a search and I believe it will still turn up. I saved the text and pics at home if you can't find it.

I would also get the better sway bar end links from guildstrand or DRM plus the frame cross bar from RM Racing to tie the suspension bits together in front of the engine.

put some BB beam plates in too to stiffen up the C beam. let me know if you need a set.

many folks have have gone to coil overs and and it really does help out the car.

I'd love some advice on the controller tuning. I will be staying with the stock FX3 for now on my coil overs, and may just fiddle with the chips. the morocco valving for the bilstein shocks is a good idea but I want to keep the cushy street ride more so than all out track performance so I will stay stock for now.

I was lucky and got my setup with a controller box for $1500 with only a few miles on them. not bad. I think DRM and exotic muscle carry the kits for about $1900 or so.

I will be giving Marc Haibeck my biz on this conversion so I can do a story about the shop with pics about the mods for a future LT5 Registry Net article.

hopefully around spring time. Marc does top notch work and has done these conversions, but you are correct, it's not that bad a job to do yourself if you have some time and welding skills.

If you do autox coilovers will put you into a prepared class in SCCA, a modified class in Corvette club, and I think, Class III in EP. All classes no matter who you go to will be serious cars and you won't stand a chance in any of them.

I already have to run in group F3 at sanctoined events because of other mods such as dual brake calipers and headers but most of the events my club puts on are non sanctioned although we are NCCC and SCCA members. Thanks for the info guys.
