Default Corvette Magazine on ZR-1 vs WRX

Well I guess Corvette Magazine got alot of angry letters so now in the latest edition, there is a picture of a yellow 95 ZR-1 and a the two imports with a story saying that the magazine stands behind their story that the ZR-1 can get beaten by an economy car and they they go on to explain about how the ZR-1 can win on paper but because of hookup the ZR-1 would lose or they would "outrun" a ZR-1.

What does outrun exactly mean anyway? I love how they say a economy car can beat Corvettes fasted production car built until 2005.
I guess they are now claiming 1/4 mile or something if they are talking about hook up.

The comment was asinine to write in the first place.
They must think they are writing for an import magazine.

Now on a side note, Corvette Enthusiast had a great magazine as did Vette - It had gathering photos plus GS on cover and Keith? prototype LT5 Corvette from UK - long nice article about 6 pages.

Now theres some great support for the hobby Why haven't they lined up a ZR1 owner next one of those imports and let them go at it? They would end up with egg on their faces.

Yeah next month there will probably be a picture of a C5 coupe and the imports saying that the C5 will definately get beat by the WRX because
it has even less hp then the ZR-1.

All we need now is for them to put some hot slims in the magazine, add even more ads and then they can market it to both markets - Corvette and the Import world.

I better go out and buy some NNNAWWWSSS for my bananna so it gets some self respect back and dosen't get beaten by $25,000 economy cars

I have driven a WRX and I would honestly say it was slow. Same for the honda S2000. The only foriegn car that has any ***** besides the ones that cost over 100 grand is the BMW M3 or M5 but that car is 80K.

It was the special model WRX-SI or something like that.
I don't keep up with the rice rockets.

Closest I have to a rice rocket is an old RX-7 but thats Rotary.

I hate to say it, but I those WRX-STI's are pretty quick.

I see the punks at the track running in the 12's basicly stock (just kicking up the boost a little)

Those EVO's go pretty good too..

Turbo all wheel drive can take off the line pretty hard. But out run a Z? they are not going through the traps at the speed I was in my stock 90 Z. Just need 3/8 of a mile to show them whose boss!

Dudes, as the saying goes, "there's always someone faster."

My question to you all is why the heck do you get your panties all bunched up when someone says that "car X" is faster than a ZR1?

Sfw is what I say. Time marches on. Just enjoy the your ZR1 for what it is.

I generally agree with the above statement. Overall, these cars are slowly creeping into the "classic" insurance category. The cars are still fast, at least in my estimation. If I could buy ANY car as quick/fast as my ZR1 for $25,000 off the lot, I would seriously consider it! I think the problem lies in that these "slanderous" assertions are made by a Corvette magazine! I thought they were supposed to be on our side, not just the side of what's trendy or new? To me, bashing one "supervette" to put the new Vette on a pedistal is sort of like robbing Peter to pay Paul. Will I line up with one of these rice rockets? Sure I will! Will I beat a lot of them? Yes. Will I lose to some of them? Most likely. Speed cost money, how fast you wanna spend?

Not in this case. FASTER ? not by a long shot. I'd love to see one of those econo boxes doing 190+ mph especially on a good bend in the road.

Quicker ? maybe For those that love to run 1/8th and 1/4 miles at a time, more power to you.

For a hole lot less than you can buy one of those econo boxes, I can build a much quicker machine. So what !!

Comparing an econo box to a ZR1 is like comparing a Cesna to a fighter jet.

and I could care less if others are faster.

I still stick by what I said that, I don't think its an accurate statement and furthermore I don't think they should make comments like that in a Vette Magazine. They could have easily just said a C5 coupe but nooo they couldn't say that because its Chevy's relatively newer model.

And getting your panties in a wad when someone does is silly.

I don't wear panties, but I do take my car and sport seriously enough to say something.

Now let me review this. A Corvette magazine writes an article on how imports can put down a Corvette ? Something that I'm missing here ?

Line them up !

Stock for stock, the Z wins.

This past weekend they had a STI vs EVO shootout and plenty of them were below 12 seconds in the 1/4, some even in the 10's. Obviously not stock.

Why was I there you may ask? We had an American vs Import race and we kicked their asses, because even though a car may be quicker, knowing how to drive it is the important part.

Top end? My vote goes for the Z stock or not for the imports.

Maybe I should send them a letter of a personal experience I had with a WRX.

Long story short----

Driver of the WRX-"Is that a ZR-1?"
Me-"Yes"
Driver of the WRX-"I didn't think I would get beat that bad!"

I will admit he had me off the line. But it was over before third gear.

Why did Corvette magazine single out the ZR-1? Why not just come out and say a $20K econo-box can beat almost every production Corvette ever made? A ZR-1 in the hands of someone who knows how to use it, is no slouch.

I am all for progress, and faster and faster cars for less, but once you start playing the game of comparing 15 year old technology to the modern stuff you have completely missed to point. You would think a Corvette magazine would understand this.

That's what you get when you are the black sheep of the GM line up. Us and the Callaway guys are both in the same boat.
