Re: 400hp ZR1 quarter mile time? (1996man)
I believe the ratings were
375/370 on the 90-92
405/385 on the 93+
LT5s make more torque everywhere in the RPM band when compared to the LT4. At least the two dyno sheets I looked at showed that.
1/4 mile times will be driver dependent. The extra power the LT5 has over the LT4 is equaled out by the LT5 powered C4 weighing some 200-300lbs more.

thanks for the info! Being the owner of an LT4 it would really be great to race some of you LT5 guys! i think it would be an honor and a blast! I am curious if i had my car modded to those hp levels how much more close together the race would be. i also did not realize the Z weighed that much more! anyway thanks again guys! and if you see a black on black 96 LT4 coupe with a FL plate pull up beside one of you, you just might have a race on your hands!

Why VetBoy? They are both high 12 second cars in stock form. I personally have never lined up with an LT4, but I have read some posts by some LT4 owners (Patrick) who have lined up with ZR-1's.

I agree but I think it depends on the specific LT4 and LT5.
Some LT4’s are strong, and approach the 350HP mark while others are more near the published HP numbers although it is pretty much known that the LT4s are stronger running engines then GM claims.
LT5’s also enjoy a wide range of HP. Most produce what GM claims but quite a few produce a lot more.
The LT5 is a heavy motor and it also can be a bear to hook up good. This works against it in the ¼ mile. On the plus side there is less shifting you have to do so you make up some time in the quarter. For the most part the ¼ is a good run between an LT5 and LT4.
At the finish line, the “Beast" within the LT5 wakes up and that is when the LT5 really comes into its own.
MMMM now I want an LT4. Sometimes I wish my Z was high mileage so I could just drive the poopie out of it everyday. An LT4 might give me my speed fix.

The LT4 is a great motor i don't know why GM didn't put it in every vette, they always have to tease us, the LT1 then the LT4,the LS1 then the LS6.
I have only seen a few stock LT4's run 110-112mph in the 1/4 i have seen a bunch of stock LT5's run that kind of MPH.
Mod for mod the lt5 is the way to go for $5500 you can make over 425 RWHP running in the 11's @ over 120 MPH with a very smooth idle and still pass emissions,of course after reinstalling the cats.
If you don't believe me drop your Z off at my house for a couple of weeks.

Be careful what you wish for 1996man, the Z I ran (from a slow roll) showed me his tail lights somewhere around 100 mph.
I'm looking for the best of both worlds...when the LT4 is paid off it will have a zr-1 friend in the garage. :chevy

I am positive that eventually the hp advantage is gonna take over since weight isnt much of an issue at speeds not to mention DOHC love top end runs but im curious what it would be like untill that point and where exactly that point is

The couple of LT4's that I've run into have been very strong. I didn't get beat, but it was close.
Hey, 1996 man. I'll be passing through G'ville next week. If you want to give it a go on I75, let me know. Im pretty stock, so you'll have a good benchmark.
