Default Matching #'s?

I was told that in the past gm would remove a zr-1 engine when it had a problem & just put another one in.....how will that effect the value in the future? I know a non matching # car is worth less! How many zr-1's have non matching #'s? Im not trying to start trouble (ive been known to mess with you zr-1 guys about your boat engines :jester ) I just wonder what the zr-1 community thinks? :blueangel:

If done (and it didn't happen to many), it would have been a factory replacement. Everyone that had this done had the option to have their original engine re-installed, but not many likely bothered. I doubt it will make any difference - just as long as it is an LT5, and not an LT1, like that one that was for sale on Ebay not too long ago!! :seeya

Hopefully there's an expert out there that can confirm this but I don't recall that the chassis serial number is anywhere on the LT-5 original or not. There's a engine serial number on the pan rail that you can determine the date MM built it and the sequence number for that days production, but I don't think the VIN was stamped on the block.

It'll be interesting to see how the NCRS judges originality in a few years when ZR-1's are eligible for their shows. I suspect there are a lot of date codes that should at least make sense shuch as a '92 built LT-5 in a '90 but that might be all they could do.

Chassis serial is located on the vertical pad right beside the bellhousing. passenger side I think.

Believe me we are having a "ball" with all the electronics.
