'90 350RWHP LT5 VS. '96 390RWHP LT4
This is a friendly bet between friends. Does the Z have a chance of winning from a rolling start or do I need to let the LT4 owner keep running his mouth til I get some more work done on the Z.

Patrick,
I was contemplating buying a GS a year ago. It had a considerable amount of work done to the 350 and was putting down 365hp--the same as my ZR-1 at the time. I went there to buy it but was so disappointed in the power's pull that I passed. From a roll, I wouldn't count the ZR-1 out. Since it's a friend--find out and let us know. Just don't let your Dad drive.

From a roll IMHO that the race will be close even though the LT4 is putting out more power, you have a wider powerband. Also are your gears the same?

He has a LT4 Hot Cam, Ported and polished intake and throttle body, Bigger MAF, headers w/ Random Tech Cats, Corsa Exhaust, and recalibration of his computer. He has 75HP shot of NOS too that he's not going to spray for this race. I'm pretty sure that's the bulk of it and I believe his redline is around 6500RPM.
I have a set of Stainless Works Headers that I haven't been able to get installed yet. Should I have them installed before I run him?

The question should read "Does the LT4 have a chance of winning.....?" If this guys car is putting down 390 WHP he had to have done a ton of work to the car. If you had a 4.10 gear in your ZR-1 there would be no contest from a stop or a roll. My car makes 397 WHP and was entered in the Sandhill's Open Road Challenge One Mile Shoot Out last August. Of the three modified LT4s (all pulling around 380 WHP) that entered, the fastest posted a speed of 151 MPH. My car ran a 162, 163, and 164. My friends stock ZR-1 ran 151 MPH. Again, if he had a 4.10 it would have been all over for the LT4's

LT4's are generally quicker off the line, but the LT5 will overtake it quickly. Im talking two stock cars... these cars, who knows...whichever car can connect better I would think, and if that LT4 has a hotcam and heads its gonna be close, I will probably depend on the driver and a bit of luck, should be a good one. Are you guys gonna get it on tape?

:iagree:
Because he will never forget the sound of that LT5 when you pass him :smash:

I'm sure when I run him I'll have Shane ride with me and get it on tape! I'm looking into having the headers installed.

H&C LT4 vs. your bolt on/headers LT5 will be close get close to 100mph it starts swinging toward the ZR1. Run him from a roll say 60mph for a 1/4 mile and I would wager on the ZR1 ;) but from a standing start that LT4 is going to be fast.

Patrick don't worry about it just get your headers installed and run him from a 10 to 15 mph roll up to 180 mph. One thing nice the 1/4mile doesn't end on the street! Please be careful this time. Also make him take a passenger too. So the weight difference is closer to even. Since your car is heavier to begin with. Good Luck.
