If you could get it for 5K, I'd do it........It's gonna be a project though.

For sure it going to be a project, but if your interested that why I say move forward eye wide open. Any other pictures? Yes I would be a 5 unless the rest of the car is great! Although if it was an around me (and had the ingnition module under the intake I would probably buy it for $5K. I wouldn't touch it for $7500. You can get in "nice" running Z for low $20's. Good luck. I hope you buy it. If not post it here and there would be a couple of use that may be interested.

Ok all, thanks for all the great advice. Cool community. I have made my decision.
I have decided it is not worth the risk. I talked to a mechanic and showed him the pictures, he called it a “spaghetti mess” and he wouldn’t touch it, well especially because it is the LT5.
So here is the link to the post on facebook and Craigslist. The seller hasn’t been responsive at all. Currently listed at $7500.
Good luck and good (part) hunting.

Yeah that car is tired and needs way more thrown at it than its worth its a parts car. If that because higher miles
Also a freshly wet car in photos is just trying to hide the faded clear coat haha

Poor ZR-1. After seeing all the craziness under the hood, a bore scope of every cylinder would be mandatory before even doing anything else. Given the condition of the engine bay, was this guy filing for divorce or caught cheating?

The more i look at the pics, the worse it gets.
The windshield has the worse delamination that Ive ever seen.
Well of course a wet car shines better than a dry one with a pretty much failed clear coat and tons of big chips on the front and the hood. Duh.
Im still not sure why anyone would waste 20 or 30 bottles of ArmourAll on an interior that is basically shot.
I do like the black bolsters on a red seats, but you cant hide the condition of the seats themselves.
The steering wheel is a goner too. No amount of ArmourAll going to fix that.
Door and window weathers stripping are completely shot as well.
And where do you suppose the wheel center caps went? Or why?
Judging by the door sill trim plates, this car had been through Automasters in Palm Springs at some point, and JVD himself (God rest his soul) could had laid hands on it. There could have been some interesting suprises in the top end, as JVD was an early leader in extracting additional HP. Thats probably why the injector housings are gone and the plenum looks as if it might be off of an even worse condition LT5 than whats under it. Just a guess mind you, but ill bet the original top end was sold off a long time ago.
Basically, no amount of lipstick is gonna to fix this pig, better to part it out than to even attempt a resurrection.

P.s, anybody else notice that the last time the car was registered for the road was 20 years ago? Tags on license plate are dated 2003.

Yup.
These particular door sills were made by Jim VanDorn, he would put them on every ZR-1 that went through his shop, and before he moved Automasters from Palm Springs CA to Bowling Green KY he sold the remaining stock off on eBay.
Odds are good that this car went through his shop, the missing injector housing and extremely ugly plenum on an otherwise fair condition LT5 increase those odds substantially. Would have interesting to see if it was one of his "Street Skinners" he produced.

If you want something that needs some work But not a total project like this poor beast would be there's a 1990 with 80K miles for 12K Over on the ZR-1net in the for sale section of the forum.

Awww so that’s what the engine is supposed to look like. Lol
Seems like a sweet deal. What do you make of that issue he is describing where the
…“ The only issue the engine has running is that the secondaries occasionally refuse to open. Best I can tell is that it has some relation to the seatbelt light sticking on, because that is when they don't engage. If the light is off, secondaries work.”…
Also any experience shipping across the country? People do it all the time I know.

Honestly it's minor stuff, I hit the painful tasks in the service list. I would say the worn valve cover gasket is the most onerous of the remaining tasks but it's also not the most pressing issue...that would be swapping the refrigerant sensors and recharging the system. Sensors are included with the car.
I did put 4,000 miles on it last year!

Check your PMs, but the TL;DR is that LT5 secondaries don't come on if there is an active service light and I shorted the ALDL to put the car into diagnostic mode, thus forcing the light to behave. Haibeck thinks it's a grounding issue.
