Default 1991 Z | #208 | pulling the engine for a clean up - updates with pics

Hi All,

In 2021 I bough a 1991 ZR-1 off the forum from the MA area. Car had 28 k original miles, basically stock and started life in Hawaii at its first owner. I shipped the car to Europe, The Netherlands, where it now shares space with a 1965 C2 (trailer queen) which I bought in 2004 in my country, a 1988 35th anniversary which I bought on the forum, a 1991 Callaway AeroBody which bought on the forum.

First I thought of selling it but my son likes the car and I dont have a real drivers vette (the C2 and '88 I only drive occasionally), so in 2022 i made the first road trip with the car and the engine block sweated out here and there. So to make it a solid driver Vette I thought let's pull the engine and clean it up and immediately swap the stock exhaust system for something more enjoyable.

I will put up some updates with pics, since I have some questions popping up that I would appreciate your advance or knowledge on.

Today I post the first batch of pictures, from work done in April (last month)

Cheers

MIke

Here are some good points of possible oil leaks to check while the engine is out.

Interesting. My Z is almost at the 100K mileage mark and I was thinking about an “engine out” service. I would clean it, address some minor leaks, clean the oil pan out, get the top end parts refinished and maybe pull the heads for some port work. Look forward to your progress.
