Default Draining fuel

What is the best way to drain the fuel from my 91 ZR-1. Can I just drill a hole in the tank and then plug it with a bolt?

No. Respectfully, if you genuinely think that is a viable solution perhaps you should not be working on your car.

Fuel tanks for these cars are no longer available. Drilling a hole in your tank creates a likely source of future leakage.
Siphon the fuel out via the gas lid opening, any remnants should either be flushed or re-siphoned, or remove the tank from the car if needed.

I use a cheap 12v electric inline fuel pump with a few feet of clear vinyl hose on each side. Fish the suction hose into the tank and the discharge hose into a gas jug. connect the wires to a spare battery, or battery charger, to power the pump and it will drain a full tank in about 10-15 minutes. The whole setup can be put together for about $25.

remove the fuel filter and be prepared with something suitable to handle the amount you have in the tank. If you want to stop the flow, provide a negative at the fill port. I just used a shop vac. good luck!

Well......................we did it. The fuel was three years old and we just started it up. It ran just fine. I did add a bottle of Techron Complete system cleaner.

That's a great data point for those who freak out about letting a car sit for ~6mos over the winter!

Glad it's up and running again! Go drive the wee out of it.

The fuel rail has a schaeder valve on the end to bleed off pressure. You can also use this to pump the fuel out of the tank. Just find the fuel pump solenoid in the fuse box. Take it out and pop the top loose. Get a piece of cardboard such as a cracker box tab or such and shim the contact points to maintain contact. Put the solenoid back in place. Unscrew the schaeder valve on the fuel rail and put a piece of clear plastic tube over it and run it into a container. Get inside the car and turn the key to run, don't start the engine. The pump will run and pump the gas out. It may be necessary to cycle the key on and off on some models. On my C5 I have a battery cut off knife switch which allows me to just leave the ignition in the on position and cycle the pump by the battery cutoff switch while outside the vehicle. The old LT5 engine should be similar with the fuel rail.
