C4 ZR1 Build Sheet
Hey everyone! So I own a 1988 Anniversary car. While replacing the carpet the other day I noticed a piece of paper stuck to the bottom of my rear carpet when I was taking it out. After closer examination I realized it was a build sheet. I thought it was weird that there was a build sheet under my rear carpet because I thought build sheets were located in the frames or on top of the fuels tanks. Anyway, I discovered that this was not the build sheet to my car. This was to a 1989 Corvette ZR1 "pilot" car. How freaking cool is that!!?? Anyway...I called the Corvette museum and they confirmed the build sheet. My question is how did this end up in my car? Weren't all of these car destroyed? Does this car still exist? Could my car have been in line, before or after, this ZR1 pilot car and the build sheet just happened to get thrown in my car? What do you all think? I attached a pic of it. Very cool piece of Corvette history in my opinion.

Interesting find in a 'very' unusual location.
VIN J5800001 - J5800017 are pretty much documented as ZR-1 Pilot. In the upper right corner is this the VIN? 1G1YZ21J9K5800015 That would seem to pass all of the appropriate VIN - Check Digit validation etc.

Check the build date of your car. It appears this Pilot car was built "April 15, 1988". If your car was built on or around that date, it may have been on the assembly line behind this pilot car. Cool piece of history, and it show the ZR-1 was Arctic Pearl White with a black leather interior. What was the name of the white color for the 1988 Anniversary Cars? Maybe it had something to do with running white cars through together? Just some thoughts. "Kick in behind job #116710". I wonder what was that car, and if it was a standard '88 sequential VIN..

If you haven't already, I suggest that you post this on the ZR1Net Registry forum. There is a section titled C4 ZR-1 Prototypes that has a lot of information on them and you could post it there, but I also would post it n the General section as there are a lot of very knowledgeable folks there who might know about this car. . --Bob

I recently viewed one of the pilot cars at Rogers Corvette Center in Maitland, Florida so at least one avoided the crusher. Interesting to find out the VIN on that one to see if it's a match. What paint code/color does the build sheet reflect (the one at Roger's is a medium blue, maybe Quasar or similar). While not an expert I have owned 3 1995 ZR-1's, (currently #276 with 4k original miles) so I'm pretty familiar. From everything I reviewed, I would say it's definitely a pilot car.

So looking at he "SCHED. NO.DATE" the ZR1 was 100043. Written on the build sheet it says "behind job # 0116710". So that means the ZR1 would have been 0116711?? My car says 116713 which is also the last 6 of my VIN. But the 100043 that is on the ZR1 build sheet is not in conjunction with the last 6 of the VIN on it which is 800015. So my car was 2 cars behind the ZR1? Why would the ZR1 say 100043 but have it hand written behind job 611710? Would they have just tossed these Pilot cars in the line somewhere random? Still learning to read these build sheets...but looks like it is possible that mine was two cars behind this one and the build sheet just go tossed in the rear of my car for some reason. Maybe?

Yes, pilot cars are fit into wherever. Parts are scheduled. And build sheets are tossed. Usually in the trash.
