Default 91 ZR1 with 16 miles

I have the opportunity to purchase a 91 ZR1 with 16 miles. The plastic is still on the seats from the factory, still smells new, and all the documentation is still stickered to the windows. Whats are your thoughts of its worth.

Is your intent to keep it a museum piece or to actually drive it?

To keep it as it is. That is the value in the car for now and the future.

I thought it might be worth what anyone is willing to pay within reason. It has been priced to me for $45,000. Has the ZR1 lost some value and nostalgia due to the economical price of the ZO6.

YOu had better find out how it has been stored all of these years, and get the maintenance history. Without it, I wouldn't touch it.

I think 45K is an excellent value. The car was over 60K new. With only 16 miles the car is still new. There is a good chance that it the lowest mileage 91 in existance. If you continue to store it, it will increase in vaule. In 25 years that car will be worth some seroius cash.

Good luck.

Why?, are you thinking the seals and gaskets in it will be dryed out. Can the part of the country it came from have some bearings, temp wise.

Those were my thoughts. But it will be hard to keep your hand out of the cookie jar forever. However I already have a 90 ZR1 with 24,000 miles.

Maybe. Although with the ZR1 that "maybe" is stronger than with other cars. But what do you consider "serious cash?" $100,000? $150,000?

Frame of reference: if you were to invest the $45,000 today and earn a meager 5% annually for 25 years it would be worth over $152,000. Even in this crappy economy 5% return is doable today and we all know that the economy won't suck forever so 5% is a very conservative number to use as an example.

Personally, I don't think a ZR1 will approach the $150,000 level.

So as an "investment" this car falls way short of other investment vehicles (pun intended).

Why?, do you feel the ZR1 in 25 years will not be a $100,000 car with 16 miles. By the way I am not debating you but trying objectively to look at whether or not this car can be considered an investment. A couple years ago didnt a 66 with 200 and some miles reach a $700,000 bid at a Cruse auction. I saw this in a magazine but I dont remember the date or exactly the auction house. :jester :bs :chevy

First - I'm by no means an expert.
Second - I'm by no means trying to rain on anyone's parade.

That said, it seems to me that it is the very rare vehicle that reaches astronomical values. The 20 L88s come to mind. While certainly an accomplishment and far beyond what GM was producing at the time, the ZR1 isn't really "rare" imho. Also, the investment market for a museum piece car is very limited and finding the right buyer is tough.

But, on the other hand, being the owner of a low miles '90 myself (#2991 w/18k miles on it now) I wouldn't complain at substantial appreciation for our cars.

I believe I am beginning to agree. This would be a nice vehicle to own but not rare enough to produce investment opportunities and from your example 5% returns a year ( if possible ) are not enough for me as an investment. I think I will stay with real estate. Now I will have to make up my mind whether or not I want the car. :flag

Here we go again... this question illustrates why we all need "AT LEAST" 3 ZR-1's, maybe more...

1. A Bloomington Gold / Top Flight NCRS quality show piece for the
perfectionist in most of us that never gets driven.

2. A low milage "immaculate example" with perhaps a few upgrades that is
only driven on the best of days.

3. One down and dirty modified beast that brings out the alter ego and
takes no prisoners... One that lets you decompress as you press the
throttle to the floor and leave everything else behind... One that doesn't
make you cringe when you see a little puddle in the road with oncoming
traffic in the other lane... One that has middle aged motorheads asking at
the gas station... I never heard a vette sound like that, what do you have
in it... and when you open the hood... they say,
what is that / where have I been ?

Would 3 ZR-1s really be enough? I don't know... :D
