Default 01 Z06 1/4 TRACK RESULTS AT MOROSSO

Guys went to the track last night to see what the 06 has. Our track is similar to B.G in the summer. Last night was 88 deg. and very humid. It is like that 90% of the times.

All passes were dont Bone stock, even the tire preasure was 32 psi, water temp 200. Same way I run it in the streets.. no triks here!

First pass I tried riding the clutch from 2500 rpsm, and I guess I took too long riding it

60' 2.41
1/8 8.92 @ 87.52 mph
1/4 13.39 @ 109.82

Second pass I put it at 1500 rpm, and just dump it and stabbed it!

60' 2.2
1/8 8.69 @ 87.84 mph
1/4 13.16 @ 110.06

There you have it. I noticed that these cars have too much rpm drop off from the third to fourth shift. This is due to the big spread in gear ratios on the trany from 3rd to 4th gears.
It only picks up 22 mph in the las half of the track.

I let Bob Eyers Drive it, he liked it, but kept hitting the rev. limit on third gear (he tested it on the road outside the track).. I told you Bob is no Zr-1.. red line is 6500 rpms LOL!

All in all it runs what is supposed to run 110 mph traps down here, which is decent for a daily driver...

But IMO the LT-5 IS THE MOTOR TO BUILD!!

That's it! Now I have to take my 02 Z06 to Morosso! I can't believe you couldn't break into the 12s! But this is not a criticism of you or the car because I have not tried it myself yet so your times are vastly better than mine right now. :yesnod:

But most of the Z06 guys (bone stock 02s) are running low to mid 12s at 115-117 mph. I think the extra torque and horses in the 02 may be a factor here but I'm going to have to check it out myself. The 02 also launches a little better due to revised rear shock valving but it does drop off after 3rd.

On a side note, any warranty concerns with GM at Morosso? Did you hide the plate and vins? Just curious what I have to do IF I decide to go...

Absolutely Bertrand!!! I am quite curious to know what kind of real world differences there are between the 01 and 02 ZO6's. You'll have to do quite well to better Julio's reaction times and shifting, but it'll still be interesting to see your numbers.

Get a big ol black marker and stroke out that VIN, and throw the plates in the trunk!! :jester :jester

Sorry I missed ya. I stay pretty busy at work. One of these days I'd like to get out to Morosso -- maybe on the weekend :)

Keep us posted on your cars -- they are awesome :)

There was a 02 with the vararam intake, borla exhaust and 100 shot of juice.
12.18 at 122 was the best I saw!!!
This Is South Florida.. It is NOT ATCO!!

With a 100 shot of juice and the best he can do was 12.18??? You were there but that doesn't sound right.

I really have to get out there for a reality check.

How can there be such a huge difference with Atlanta? Z06les runs 12.5s with just the vararam intake in Atlanta (hotlanta) at 1000 feet altitute on motor and stock tires. He idicated in his post that the vararam bought him .1 et and 1mph (his car is making 372 rwhp, which is 10-20 more than a bone stock 02). So he was running 12.6 without the intake and with the car bone stock. Just curious why there is such a difference with Morosso.

Not doubting your facts, just confused...

you are 1 hour from Morosso. Go tonight for test and tune and see for yourself what YOU can get out of your 02 Z06. Don't take my word for it.
If you can hit hig12's at 112-113 mph, consider yourself a good driver.
Stock tires, no icing the intake, no 4 hours cooldowns....
You could know the answer to your question in less than 12 hours. Get out there and find out!

Do you hide the plates and VIN when you go there? I have warranty concerns if I go up there (I have a 50,000 mile/5 year extended warranty so I don't want to blow it in that respect).

If you don't want to go to the track, maybe we can meet tomorrow and race couple of times from a 50 mph roll, I'd like to see how the 02 compares to the 01, any godd areas around your place wher we could do this? We can always hit the turnpike.. second gear 40-50 mph roll...

I have to check my schedule with the better half...

The last time I went at it with an 01 Z06, we both punched it from a 2 mph rolling start and I pulled about 3-4 feet on him by the top of 2nd gear. He had Borla stingers and I don't know if he had an intake on the car.

They are definitely close but an 02 should break into the 12s if well driven. I'm going to check out the Morosso web site for hours and general info. I think I just need to get out there sometime. Do you work in Dade or Broward? Thinking maybe we can do lunch on a weekday and do a little road testing after that. You can just IM through the forum if you prefer...

I have to check out that ZR1 at some point as well. A ten second car! Ouch, that was on the juice, right?

I work in Dade, a weekday night would be easier, too much traffic during the day..
2mph roll? what the heck is that?.. 4000 rpm puch from 1st or second gear, and we can go to top of fourth at 140 or so.. you should pull me up top...
Morosso opens gates at 6:00 p.m, closes at 12:00
Best I've seen an 02 do is 12.8 at 113 mph...
To run in the 12's with street tires on That track is not easy, but it is duable!
low 12's forget it!!.. 12.6-7 on a 02 with practice is possible...

Low 12's is what vipers run downs here at 117-118 mph.. and trust me.. The Viper WILL WALK 5-6 lenghts an 02 Z06 from a roll!

It is like comparing Barby's car to Bat-Man's...

AAARRRRGHHH :mad :mad :mad MOROSO! :boxing :boxing :boxing

Ok xsmph, feeling guilty about commenting on your times without facing the music myself... So I manage to last minute free up the evening from 9:00 pm on. I call the track: young teenager sounding kid answers and is nice enough to answer my stupid questions:

1. Do you need a helmet - Answer: Only if you run under 13.99 - check.
2. If you run under 12.99, the guy tells me I will need a 'jacket' - tells me to run it and they'll tell me if I need one
3. Tells me I can rent a helmet just fine (since I don't have one yet).

Now here's the clincher; I ask, what time are you open until - Answer: "we close at 11:00 PM. We are open from 6-11 Pm for test and tune". I then say, so if I go there now I can get in a couple of runs? He says "yup" and gives me directions from over 60 miles away, leave the house at 9:25.

Folks, I get there at 10:18 and the flippin right gate is shut with a big "closed' sign on it and a police officer behind the gate keeping people out. At this point I'm :mad :mad :U so I call the track on my cell and a young sounding lady who was very nice tells me they close at 11:00 but the gate closes at 10:00pm and appologizes for the other guy.

So a word to the wise for the South Florida crowd after a useless 120 mile night round trip to the the middle of nowhere...check the time at which the entrance to the track closes if you're a Moroso newbie like me. I guess I'll try again Wed or next Friday if the better half lets me... :yesnod:

I don't know what was wrong with your car. The first time out in my 02' Z06 with the paper tags and only 400mi, I ran 12.23@116mph. That was totally bone stock. My old 00' coupe ran 12.55's with just an air filter and muffler. You need to work on your driving. You might be trying to drive it like a ZR1 and not a Z06. They are different cars.

Hey Brutus, why don't ypu read the whole thread before you ask what's wrong with my car?
First you run at Houston, not Morosso. Second the 13.19 can be improve, although I doubt on that track on street tires it can get better than a 12.8.
Third ..Do you know the meaning of MPH trap speed?

110 MPH POWERSHIFTING my way to foruth gear at 6400 rpsm shifts!
That is all that car has.
I've raced my friends 00 FRC from a roll, and is 5 cars from 50 to 140 mph.. so maybe something wrong with his car too.

Unless you run in the same track I'm talking about keep those "smart" comments to yourself.
The 02 I saw was running 122 mph Best at 12.1 with 100 shot , vararam, borlas and DRAG RADIALS!!
Vipers run dwon here 12.3 at 117 mph 118 mph well driven.. they must run 11's at over 120 at your track...

Maybe ther is something wrong with your car, or you can't drive. I hear of 02's running in the 11's at 119 mph!.. up north

Furthermore, Ask Vince Stella over at the c-5 forum why he has run a best of 12.1 at 113 with head, cam, converter and tires at morosso, and all the other bolt ons.
Ask him what is the best he has seen Z06's run and what has been their mph?
I guess all the 06's they sell down here are just plain SLOW!

bertrand, that is the Attitude I'm talking about!!!
you got my respect !!
TOday they probably have bracket racing. gates open at 4:30, but eliminations start at 8:00
you can usually get 2 passes before it all strats, plus one more pass in the bracket eleimintaions. even if you loose your first bracket race, you can get back for $20. So call and see if they have that today.. maybe you can get couple of runs and sette it!

Julio, my hats off to you. Guy's like that are the reason most people don't post times that are a little off of the ole "01 Z06 should run 12.5 @113" bs. Track conditions are EVERYTHING. Hot, humid air doesn't make power. Plus factor in altitude. These things really effect times by a lot.

On the topic of the race track closing, that sucks. I would have been steamed if I called them up on my cell phone after driving that distance and they still didn't let me in to get a pass or two.

Thanks Joel for the support!!!!

Let me give you all internet racers some valuable info.

I had a 98 C-5 stock w/ 3.15 gears auto.
took it to the same track on a better night ..temps in the low 70's
cooled it for 4 hours, iced the intake, and pushed it to the line.
Results 13.2 at 106.5 mph!
Wow.. what a fast car, almost as fast as the 06 right?
My friend's 00 frc run another day 13.3 at 108 mph... only 1.5 mph more trap spped, but from a roll to 140 mph he was 5 lengths on me, and i can shift the auto at redline!

took the Auto another night to the track, hoter and more humid, did not cool down, drove it to the line ..water temps in sthe 210's...
More realistic set up...
Results 13.65 at 102.5 mph!!!

The moral of the story is ; A lot of times people use the internet and what others are doing to compare their cars. I've seen plenty of vipers run 12.7 at 113-114 mph down here... If i didi not know better I'd think i can hang on the srteets from a roll with one of them, sincethere is not much difference in trap speeds.....
SURE
A GTS will pull my 06 on thrid gear and fourth gear Big time!!..

Brutus, you sound like a Service Specialist I saw the other day who claims he has driven, fixed everything from Vipers to Zr-1's to L-88 corvettes, and nothing, Nothing matches the acceleration of a Z06!!!..In his own words, I must've gotten a dog!!

BTW, after All I have seen on the track and at vettte evenst down here, i knoew that the car was good for 109-110 mph before i even went to the track. i knew hiogh 12's was going to be a challenge, but i nver cared for E.t at all. my game is mph!!
If I could get 110 I was going to be satisfied, 111 impressed, and 107 dissapointed!..

Sure if I cool the intake, push it to the line, wait 4 hours to run it, pump the front tire to 50 psi, remove the air filter, I could have gone 112 mph, maybe 113..BUT what is that godd for other than to come to the forum and and hear it from those who dont know crap abotu racing how fast the 06 is.
That is Not the Way i run it in the streets on casual encounters, so Why fool myself.. i know Better!
