Default Oil dipstick

Everyone, my engine oil dipstick will not stay fully seated when I drive the car. Is there a new gasket or seal available to keep it fully inserted. I fear this is a way dirt can get in.

Do you think crank case pressure is pushing it out?
That might not be good.
Or just a worn dip stick seal

I think blow by from the piston is creating crank case pressure pushing it out. My Z with 140,000 was pushing the dipstick out about 1/4". I wouldn't worry about it.

yup, you can crimp it just a bit to create a tighter fit on the little cap

bet careful not to crush it too far

on my c5 I have a lokar dipstick and I love it

its a thick cable with a nice billet handle with a positive lock ring

getting the dipstick in and out of the ZR1 is a pain

I think a lokar is in my near future!

Weird, the PCV valves are new, pressure should,t be building up. I will try the crimping suggestion. Maybe I can find some kind of weak spring. Thanks for the suggestion.

i had my car at Mark Haibecks a couple years ago getting headers put on it and asked him about my dipstick coming out also. he said it was a common issue with the Z's and pulled it out and about 6 inches from the handle he put a slight bend in the flexible stick and put it back in and i have never had it come out again. the bend he maded just put a little more pressure on the sleeve that you insert the dipstick in and keeps it seated and in place. brody p.

Cool idea. I was looking at mine and it seems to be some kind of spring-loaded tension holding it out. Thanks for the easy fix! Cool, it will keep the dirt out.
