Considering purchasing a 90 Z, 28k miles for a daily driver. Gonna check it out monday. My '84 is my show/track/toy. Always wanted a ZR-1 and this one looks cherry. if i do this it will be a daily driver. Any suggestions ,thoughts , opinions gladly accepted. Thanks

Buy it;
Drive it;
Enjoy it!
They are old enough to make it like driving something special, yet new enough that it does not feel like you are driving a John Deere.
A "classic" that you can live with, and with all that the LT-5 does as a bonus! ( and the air works!)
Back in 93, I drove my Z as a daily driver.
Made me smile every damn day!
Just don't roll the window down in the rain, especially in a suit.
You think thye would have thought of a rain channel on that darn roof!
Everyone agrees once de-bugged, these cars respond well to frequent use.
So, Go get it!
Keep us posted!

Always thought I could use my old '90 for a DD. Never actually did it though. Things that would bother me is getting in and out of it on every trip would be bothersome.......if you are young, and not a wide load like me that shouldn't be an issue. Only other thing is snow. These cars will not do well in snow. Other than that, I say go for it! They get decent fuel mileage, and once they are well sorted out, I didn't have too much trouble with mine....especially anything that would leave you stranded. It will need injectors as previously mentioned if they have not been changed.

I bought my 90 last year with 21K miles on it and while not technically a daily driver, I put quite a few miles on it and love it! I did not buy it to sit in a garage. I have replaced the injectors and it runs like a champ and is very reliable! I get lots of compliments and when you mash your right foot down, oh how sweet it is!
I too have another (85' Z51 coupe) that I beat on a bit more and may mod a little. Great fun! I am blessed to have such nice toys! They were built to enjoy!

I've got a 95 ZR-1 that is my DD.
I've also got an 84 that is for those bad days. My 95 does great in everyday driving and it also makes for a spirited drive to and from work, not boring like the 84 is...{slow}.

I'm looking for a Z now and curious what I will expect to spend for new injectors? I've found a few that already had them done but not sure what the value of that is.

As long as you have another car as a backup, I wouldn't drive any older Vette as my daily driver. More of a toy to drive whenever you feel like it and have a more modern newer ride.
I drive my "Z" almost every day just for fun.
That's just me though.

Is a ZR-1 good for a daily driver, lets see.....
Lets take a 1994 ZR-1 with 120,000 miles and add a 10,000 mile trip from Baltimore, MD to Alaska and back. (in 30 day's)
See here!!

They are on the 7,000th mile, no issues and tons of pictures / info!!!
I'd say yes!!!

As David stated, you certainly could use a Z as a DD. I just choose to use mine as a toy.
You also have to learn to do your own wrenching with plenty of help from the ZR1.NetRegistry. The best group of Corvette guys in the business.

I concur with Vette Daddy in that doing your own maintenance and modifications is an added bonus of enjoyment with the LT5 engine

Safety Car
It might be more economical to have a regular car for 80% of your driving, but I figure my 91 probably costs something like $300 a month to keep going (to date). This is mostly due to repairs to make it right and bringing it from a state of dormancy to regular usage. Actual post resurrection costs are probably more like $1000 a year (maybe not incl tires).
It is a C4- so that nickle and dimeing happens, but ZR-1 specific is maybe going to cost 30% extra.

I am not sure that the costs to Maintain without Modifications would be excessive if you do your own work. The C4 ZR-1 is said to be Bullet Proof and I am thinking that also. Once Maintenance is accomplished and old parts replaced, you can drive it for a very long time.
When you get on the road.....you are talking high MPG - in the mid 20s . That is hard to beat and a modified LT5 often gets even higher MPG because of increased engine efficiency
I have two chips (one for 87 Octane fuel and one for 91 Octane fuel) So with just a quick one minute switch of chips I can run on either fuel recognizing I get a bit higher gas mileage on 91 Octane fuel
