Well, not exactly difficulty unlocking, the difficulty is with the theft deterrent system.
Different problem.

my key will not unlock either door on my 1987.
I posted this yesterday, and got some replies but apparently I was told to post it in the C4 section, which is what I thought i did. I am a new member so bare with me. We are trying to reset the factory alarm. We were told to lock the door then unlock with the key, to disable it. If anyone has any other ideas as to how to disable the factory alarm, I would greatly appreciate it.

So the key locks and unlocks (mechanically) both doors, but does not arm or disarm the theft system, is that correct?

new info....i was just informed that the key does turn, but it will not unlock the doors...

OK, the key correctly operates the lock, both to lock and unlock both / either doors, but does not arm or disarm the theft detterent system(alarm).
and,
you can lock and unlock both / each doors successfully from inside the car(forget about the alarm)
Trying to confirm that the lock and related parts are functioning, but you are having difficulty arming or disarming the alarm, as opposed to having difficulty with the locks themselves.
