1989 ZR1 Prototypes
Are these cars documented anywhere. Do we know who owns them or ANY of them? How many are there in existence?
Thanks

Theres a few of them, some are 88s and at least an 87.Do some digging at the Corvette Action Center. The most fascinating story are the cars that were destroyed and brought back to life. Some of the early cars shipped over seas for Lotus were later destroyed by running over them with a tractor. In the one picture there is a white car on its side, there are several pictures of this car during its rebirth.Mike Yeager has one of the cars in this crush picture,a blue car.Ive got a few pictures Ill email you shortly. Its one thing to restore a car but to see these cars that were junk resurrected just blows me away.

Thakns Jeff. I looked at Yeager's car earlier this year. I know Tyler and love his car. These crush cars are really neat. it would have been nice to rebuild one.

Here is a link to the story of the re-birth of a 1986 prototype ZR-1 with the original prototype LT5 & ZF6. It's one of the really early ones before they even came up with the wide-body version. Pretty amazing:

Yes its Pearl White, at the time of those photos Mr. Roebuck owned the car at the time. Gene and Robby Tucker out of Macon, Ga did the resto on the car. It was an 89 car that was brought over with Yeagers Blue/Blue car. I saw them both in a storage unit crushed right after they were in the U.S. No one even knew the White car was Pearl White until I started digging around the car and shined a light on the floor panels to see it was Pearl and not Artic white. It was super dirty. There was also some controversy over the seats in the Pearl car as to if they were 89 Sport Seats or 88 Sport seats. It was such an early car it had 88 Sport seats. Thats what the car had when I saw it crushed. I have a copy of the build sheet somewhere to that car. They wrote KING OF THE HILL on the build sheet at the factory when it was being built. In Tampa there is a 89 Narrow Body Conv Black/Grey int that was crushed as well. GM history at its finest.

There were a little over 80 1989s produced, I do know there is a crushed convertible still in a showroom and for sale....can't find the website. Maybe someone else knows.
Did you get the vids and pics of the wheels I sent?

The vert is a converted 90. Al Weisman has it on display. Hard to tell how many 89s exist, pretty sure GM has 3 probably 4. As far as worth I do not believe the $250k figure as BJ had one that went for $100k and it was perfect with a title and has been plated.

The car I saw was either blue or Polo green,I think it was any way.In 88-89 there was a dark blue metallic, something tells me this car was dark blue.Might have to go lookin for it.
