Re: radar detectors who has em and what brand? (phrogs)
IMHO,
Your search will end with the Valentine. Knowing which direction the threat is coming from and how many radars (with the closest direction flashing) is very helpful. I believe Car and Driver just did a comparison of the top detectors in the last issue or two - the Valentine (V1) won by a LARGE margin. Another good benefit of the V1 is that you can have it updated by Valentine (For a fee)if they come out with a new technology. All you have to do is go to their site and plug in your serial number.
I am sure everyone will have favorites based on what they own. I wonder if many people have gone from the V1 to anything else?
Re: radar detectors who has em and what brand? (phrogs)
I did my research about 5 months ago and www.radartest.com helped me make up my mind. I went with the Passport 8500 and it has performed flawlessly. I drive a good bit with my job (clocked a little over 1200 this week) so it gets a good workout. (In fact it worked so well when I got it I thought it was lying to me because it gave so much advance warning... It would beep, and then 2 miles later I would see the fuzz in the bushes clocking folks!)
The latest Car and Driver www.caranddriver.com test has the V1 and the 8500 in opposite positions with almost the same scores ( ) so either way you go you will get a good unit. Most people on the forum stress the V1, but I must say the 8500 is the better value (You can get brand new ones on ebay for $240 shipped).

V1 hands down........tried them all returned them all except the V1. The V1 is like having God riding in the car with you. You know exactly where everything is.

Why do you think it is a joke? I was just wondering.
Craig Peterson is a consultant for all of the manufacturers, except for Valentine. Valentine refuses to hire him. Ever wonder why the V1 does so poorly in his tests, but does so well in others?

Can we say "paid for the performance results!" :mad
Re: radar detectors who has em and what brand? (phrogs)
My cars are protected by V-1.
As mentioned, that stuff on Radartest.com is bias because this guy is paid to "consult" and his results reflect that.
The coolest features about the V-1 is knowing the direction AND the number of the “threats”. Notice how Radartest.com down-plays these important features. Check out the Valentine website for yourself AFTER reading the Radartest.com advertisement.
Re: radar detectors who has em and what brand? (phrogs)
As most everyone has told you already the V1 is the ONLY one to have. The only people who bash it are the ones that refuse to pay the price. In the long run, it's short money. It WILL save you from MANY tickets.
Re: radar detectors who has em and what brand? (90Callaway)
So what does one go for brand new and what dom they come with???
Ive researched a few on ebay some are just the regular detector others have added lazer detection and others have another small detector with them whats the difference? and is there a site specificly for valentine im sure there is ill search for it later..
thanks guys..

You can find them on ebay for low 300's. New they're 399. The remote display is another 39. I have no idea why it' needed, as mine is mounted high enough that it's within easy eye site. Rather not look down at the dash at 90+
If you buy one new, ask for the vacation returns...it's 349.....and if you buy a used one, maek sure it's a newer version so you don't get stuck paying for any of the upgrades.
Re: radar detectors who has em and what brand? (phrogs)
I've only owned two radar warning receivers, a really old Escort and a Valentine One that replaced the Escort in 1994. I've had the V1 upgraded by Valentine once back about 1997.
The Valentine is pretty expensive compared to other units on the market but mine has paid for itself about three times now in aiding me in beating law enforcement out of a citation.
I've used the V1 mainly on long trips across the southwestern U.S. and often at speeds at least 10mph over the posted limit.
In the last eight years in every situation but one, the V1 has saved me when I've been running over the limit while approaching a radar-equipped cop.
Without a doubt, the V1 is the best of any unit on the market in trying to discriminate between traffic enforcement radar and other radar devices.
I should add that time and time again, in magazine tests, the V1 places first.
Re: radar detectors who has em and what brand? (phrogs)
Just in case you need another endorsement, I agree- V1 is the only one to have. Just yesterday its directional and threat count features saved me again.
