I am repairing damage done to my 92 ZR-1. The antenna was disconnected and the speaker wires cut. My questions are these:
The rear speakers wires are red and green. Which one to the large spade?
Where does the antennae hook up to? I have 95 Corvette manuals but they are different as far as I can tell about the back end. Where is the radio receiver?
Appreciate any help that you can give me. Thanks.

Reason: None
Receiver is in one of the storage boxes.. I will check the wires tonight when, unless someone else chimes in... for the antenna i assume you are talking about the RF cable right? not power or ground for it?
The antennae has the power set up to it so all I have to do is hook up the main box to it (control box) but the RF lead is unplugged. They hooked another RF cable lead into it for some reason but I don't think that they were using it since the antennae doesn't come up.
By storage box, are you talking about the one box behind the pax seat. I couldn't see anything in there but I did not see if the enclosure came off. I did remove the tray. The 95 manual shows it there but I will look again. Thanks for the help.
The green speaker wire has the larger spade lug. The red wire has the smaller one.
On a 92 the CDM/Receiver is mounted on a plastic tray behind the passenger side dash near the fuse box. My finger is pointing to where the antenna coax plugs into it if that is what you're asking about.
Thanks. I tore the back of the car up and no receiver. The antennae lead is unplugged so I will reconnect the lead and check up under the pax dash. I talked to Ken Anderson and he told me the same thing. He also said that the wiring is pretty much unchanged which is good since they did cut and splice their way throught the car. Basic butcher shop technique. The aftermarket stuff is interfering with the car's systems. You guys are outstanding!

The receiver is behind the dash on the early cars and behind the seat on the late cars, changed in 93?

The first year for pass side airbag is when this changed, the area in the dash is now taken up for the airbag. This controller is a total pain to get to and to work with so be prepared.
After jacking with this thing for a good day, I have raised the white flag. 1. I'm too big to get into a lotus position (or is it yoga) 2. The RF cable is too short to reach the receiver box. 3. I can't see it.
I am going to rethink this a little bit and find someone from Oz to see if one of them can climb back there and check it out. I'm going to have to have a sling and a hoist to get me in there and out and my bifocals are designed for close-in fighting with the dash.
I really appreciate the help. The pax airbag did come out in 94 and the receiver went back there in the right storage box area. My 95 was like that. Thanks, guys. Have a good Memorial Day weekend. I am going to just enjoy the sound of the LT5 motor whilst I drive to OKC Saturday.

This is how I did it.Take out the seat and then take out the seat tracks, remove the right fuse panel, this is the main panel at the end of the dash, there is a screw for the hush panel in this are, remove the hush panel. Now what you have to do is get on your back and get down in the footwell,Im 6 FT 200 LBS,wasnt easy.Looking up,it is behind a black plastic panel. If I remember the cable hooks to the left.Heres a few pictures.Ive been working on my cars for years and I can honestly say working with this thing was the most challenging thing thats ever kicked my a$$,good luck. The picture with the rats nest of wires is what runs under the black plastic bracket.[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]
The RF cable is about 1 1/2 ft too short!
I have hooked up the radio and the antennae works but no radio because of no antennae. I tried to play the CD but I think it tried to eat it. I am going to send the radio to Ken Anderson and let him fix it. I have used him before and he is reasonable. While that is going on, I will have to find an extension for the RF cable and try to hook up the cable to the receiver box...again! Thanks for the help!
I just checked 94 FSM and receiver box is in passenger side stowage compartment mounted vertically towards outboard. This is also where the floor jack is. I believe 95 was the same way (almost sure).
If the car had aftermarket head unit and was reverted to factory head unit before selling, previous owner may not have bothered to reinstall and hook up the receiver.
What you are describing, cut wires, etc...Car may have had non factory system and not completely reverted.
I installed Alpine head unit w/ Sony 6 channel amp, Boston Acoustics tweeter, mids and custom sub woofers in my old 91. Interestingly, Alpine head unit worked fine without antenna extended (it was connected) so I disconnected antenna switch and kept it retracted.
As I said, it seems your car had non-factory system and was hastely reverted back to factory.
I will confirm tomorrow since I am on the 7th floor and the car is at B1 level.
I bought the car with an Alpine sat radio and Clifford car alarm already installed in it. I am removing the Alpine and Clifford because they interfer with the car operations. The Clifford will not let the car be started because it is extremely stupid, so I cut the ignition circuit out of it's control and I can now start the car. I am removing the Alpine because it is interfering with the fuel system computer. Aftermarket stuff was not planned to interface with the Corvette's electrical system. I have successfully taken out the Alpine system and now working on the Clifford alarm.
I plan to restore the car back to it's original status. I realize that some people may not understand this but I have already modded one Vette and have no plans to do another. I used to have a 95 ZR-1, so I do know about the location of the receiver box. I have never had a Vette like this one with the glove box instead of the airbag.
Thanks for the help, guys. I really need to buy the 92 manuals now.
I finally got around to hook up the antennae to the receiver box and discovered that the original antennae lead is still hooked in. The RF cable is wired a lot differently than I thought it would be. I traced it through the transmission tunnel and behind the drivers seat. Finally found the end of it stuck under some carpet that I had not moved before. Hooked it in and am waiting for tomorrow before I power up the radio to see if it works. That was a lot easier than I thought that it would be since the install guy just unplugged the antennae and hooked it up with another one. The pics helped a lot. Thanks!
