Found a '90 green/saddle zr1 that needs paint, carpet, radio for $15K with 62K miles.
I figure paint is going to be ~$2K, not sure on the carpet or the radio. I am waiting on pictures and maintence info.
Anyone think this is a good deal?
I am leaning towards a quick silver C5 2002 zo6 but find the ZR1 as the only C4 i'de purchase and do not have a problem working on cars since the ZR1 will need some work eventually due to its age.
Location: Fremont Ca. I will do No business with ANY company that boycotts Arizona.

If you want it painted correctly it will cost you more than $2,000.
you will have to replace most weatherstripping and it is not cheap and repos are just that so you get what you pay for.
Now I think that car should be lower than that.
I had my car that needs paint, carpet, and radio up for 19K and it has 25,000 in upgrades done to it by DRM for the previous owner he just didnt take care of the paint. so it needs to be repainted the carpet is something im going to change im putting in a red interior.
the owner also says the fuel injectors, vacume pump, weather stripping have all been replaced. says the fluids are fresh too. I dont think its worth $15K. Anyone got a idea what it really is worth? $11k????

With all that has been replaced Iwould have had the car listed for more that 15K. I certainly wouldn't let it go for anything less.
if he really replaced all the weatherstripping that is ass backwards you paint then install weatherstripping, so whatever weatherstrip he has replaced will need to come off and some of it is not reusable.

Good point. I dont think the owner is going to be flexible on the price. I still think its overpriced for the work it needs/going to need.
Worth the try, but sometimes those "Low Ball" offers won't make it into the strike zone.
Good Luck with your C5 Z!
I think it was a very fair offer, considering the work the car needs and will need. Aside from whats been mentioned, eventually its going to need:
starter
water pump
fuel pumps
wheel bearings
suspension bushings replaced
misc.suspension work
brake work
some type of transmission work (external to the zf6)
coils
You'd be far better off to buy my '91 with ALL those maintenance items AND the critical upgrades already done....for just a tiny bit more. You can drive mine as you...ummm...find something you want to change or "personalize". It doesn't ned ANY maintenance/R&R, and won't for another 50-100,000 miles...except for the usual fluid and filter changes of course.
No offense to the seller, but 15K is too much considering what it needs. With the hidden repairs or time/mileage maintenance you would be looking at more like an additional $6-8,000.

I don't know if it was fair, but it probably was worth the shot. As far as the list of eventual needs, I think that is very pessimistic, and makes me wonder just how bad the paint and carpet are. At any rate, I think you'll be happier with the ZO6.

Thats a long list of maybe fixes.
wow My 77,000 ZR-1 hasnt needed any of that stuff yet.
It still needs paint and weatherstripping.
I lowered the nose on mine changed all fluids and the tires but other than that its the same as when I got it from the previous owner.

thanks for offer, but I do not want to purchase a modified Z. Good luck on the sale of your car!

I can forward the pictures of the car to you for your opinion.
