GM only sold '89 ZR-1s in the BJ auction. I don't think they retained any prototype cars in their possession, but who knows for sure. There is one uncrushed prototype in pristine condition in private hands. Also, several crushed prototypes recovered from the England junkyard have been rebuilt/restored.

I think there will be one or two for sale there, but who knows what GM will put up for sale.

Will,
There are a few more 89 prototype Z's in GM's hands. I wouldn't be my life on it, but from what I hear there are a few left.
Hey Tyler,
What ever happened to that 89 you found at the tech school last year?
Best regards,
George C
Heritage folks picked it up. I thought they would include it in the sell off as they have s/n 3 in a red color. Might come up in next round. I believe Bret found that GM has it in Carfax as a salvage vehicle which would indicate to me they are going to sell it.
Mine is an 88 and NOT for sale, George is talking about an 89 pilot car I found several years ago.
Brett I still cannot get the radiator out of my 55 without bending the radiator frame a little, the capture nuts for the hood hinges are in the way.
Tyler
Which captured nuts? The ones on the side for the hood hinges or the ones for the pop-ups?
Take a look at the radiator suppor itself. It may actually be squeezed a little from side to side. The captured nuts should not prevent it from coming out, especially if the bolts are backed out or removed.
If the radiator is too far forward underneath the front upper surround panel you may have to loosen the bolts along the top so the unit leans towards the engine. This will allow the radiator mount flange to slide past the captured nuts for the hood pop-ups. Thjis can be done from underneath the nose. The nuts should loosen up even if you can't get a wrench on the heads behind the radiator.

Now they'll take it to auction, but when you wanted it, no way would they consider letting it go. Makes no sense. Was that really several years ago? Time does indeed fly! Maybe it was on a salvage title when it was loaned to the school initially? Interesting history.

What happened to the steel blue narrow body convertible that was at B-J? Havent heard anything about it so it being sold so it should be floating around somewhere.

Yes, I know. The '89 narrow body owner won't sell. The crushed '88 prototype can be bought and would be a nice project, but will never be worth what Tyler's car is worth. Tyler's car was never crushed, has experimental glass, the hand laid fiberglass rear quarters, prototype tranny, phase II motor, etc.
Brett, glad you were able to work a deal with on the old Challenge race car. It was about to be sold to a racer that only wanted it for the roll bar.
