Default Oil question

I am buying a 2000 dodge caravan from my soninlaw with 45,000 mi. on it. Would it make a difference if I maintained it with mobil 1 .

Might help the mpg.

BTW - - - This thread gets my vote for the oddest question ever asked in the ZR-1 Discussion section.

I wouldn't waste my money on a full synthetic on something like a caravan. I do use mobil 1 in my 98 Z28 (my daily until i bought a truck), but i don't use it in my 73 or 76 vettes. Unless the motor is all aluminum or a high compression motor, i would just use a good conventional oil. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. To me it makes no sence to throw money at something that doesn't require it.

.

I agree....even though I have been using synthetic in my '96 T&C for a number of years (130K miles now). But I don't buy $6/qt Mobile 1 for the van. Look for specials at Kragen/Checker or the other aftermarket stores. my last 3 full synthetic changes cost me $1/qt for some good name brand stuff. The ONLY reason I use synthetic is to go longer between changes and a little extra protection during the 110+ summer heat.

I use M1 in my DD....simplifies my oil inventory, and since my DD is also a flat tappet motor it uses the same ZDDP additive...I just wish the oil filter on my 2.4 ecotec was the same as my Z....I thought cartridge filters went out in the '50's...
