Hey folks, I'm thinking about buying a ZR-1, always wanted one. I've owned several corvettes in the past (70LT-1, 72 454 LS5, 99C5 coupe, and 96 Grand Sport) The ZR-1 has always captivated me and I was wondering what type of a price you would expect to pay for a 91 Red/Red w/5500 miles on it in mint condition?
I know the price that is being asked for it but I just wanted to get some opinions from you experts out there. This car would be an occasional weekend driver but spend most of the time in the garage.

That's nonsense. There are plenty of high mileage cars that are having a rough time, but at 5500 miles that 91 is a virtually brand new car. Sure the 90-92s aren't worth what 93-95s are worth, but low-mid 20s describes a car with maybe 20K in miles (which is still fairly low) - even in today's market. In my mind, that car should bring no less than 30 but perhaps to make for a quick deal maybe as low as $28K. Anything less than that is desperation from the seller.
I see the same thing happening to ZR-1s that happened to big blocks in the early 70s. Nobody wanted them in "used" condition so prices dropped quickly and bubba got a hold of many of them and beat the hell out of them. The low mileage and original cars still held their value but there were few of them. After a point you had the quality cars and the restoration candidates. The restoration candidates are the equivalent of the generally decent cars being parted out these days or the high mileage cars that few people want. This 91 with 5500 miles is hardly likely to be of this later category.
Has anyone actually bought or sold a '91 for over 30k in the last two years? I don't think I have seen any. Even low mileage? This is red/red which doesn't help. I may be wrong but in this market if you really want to move it and not be up for 6 months like most on the registry high mid 20s would be good.
$28,000 -$32,000 normally, but in today's market they might take less.
Red/ red, while not that popular here on the forum, is a very good investment color. For $34k, you are getting real close to the very desireable 94-95's
So why is the 94-95 so desirable? Is it the fact that they have more hp, newer interior, different wheels, etc. Or am I missing some big stuff here that I am overl looking?

All of what you said but the main reason is they only made 448 cars each year in 93, 94 and 95. I'm thinking around 28k would be a good buy for you on that car.

Color make a big price add.
Dark Purple 0/25
Bright Aqua 5/13
Admiral Blue 44/12
Black Rose 11/0
Dark Red 19/16
Comp Yellow 43/49**
------------ 1994/1995
If the seller can provide objective evidence that maintenance has been done (obviously based on elapsed time rather than miles) I'd offer as much as $30K depending on how bad you want it. I might even consider $31K if he has replaced the injectors; if he hasn't you will.
..... Red/ red.... not that popular here on the forum.....
First time I have heard that.
I understood that all the other colors were just mistakes.
avijay,
$34K is too much for the car you are talking about. You also need to know that ZR-1s hate to sit still, so a 17 year old car that hasn't been driven may have some issues.

Great advice from all and thanks, I will call today and shoot for offering 26K, it's at a dealer so based on how the economy is I don't feel bad low balling the car. I would never insult another Corvette owner that way but I don't mind doing it to a dealer. We shall see what happens.
I'm guessing you have a red/red Z in your near future! There is a vendor here on CF Forum that sells them, has several threads recently. I suspect he's lurking! Appox $350 rebuilt, $750 new (16). Of course that's plus labor. Good luck!

I paid $23K for my flawless 91 Z, white over red with 15K miles, extra set of wheels, windshield, owner's kit, maintenance records etc. Car is freaking gorgeous!
1996 Red/black/black LT4 convertible with a couple of mods
1969 Camaro RS/SS 427 Convertible
1996 Yellow/black/black LT4 convertible (1 of 11 made)
1995 ZR-1, white with red interior (1 of 13 made)
if you do buy the car and when you need injectors i highly recommend Jon at ficinjectors . he sells bosch type 2 flow matched and with a 3 year guarentee. i have them in both my zr1s and love them .his flowmatching is way better than some of the way higher priced sets you can buy for our cars
Called dealer yesterday and offered sales guy $25k for the car, said he had to talk to owner of dealership sometime today to see what he says, oh well I guess we will see how bad they want to move this car.
