I have read quite a few posts over the past 2 yrs. that mention about our ZR1's not going up in value like they should. I also agree. well this is the first time I read the C5 for sale section .and when I see ZO6's that are 10 and 12 yrs. newer selling for very close and less than a ZR1 like mine .That makes me want to keep my Z that much more. 1990 stock 24,000 mi. black /black B E A S T .

The Z06's are a dime a dozen and can be had for high teens, low 20's.
Don't let all the naysayers piss on your parade.
The ZR-1 will be the car to have in the future.
I've had mine 8 years and I can probably get what I paid for it. Try that with a Z06
Location: Fremont Ca. I will do No business with ANY company that boycotts Arizona.
You will see the prices of the C5s continue to drop and this will give some the chance to get into a Z06,personally I have no plans to make a move onto a Z06,dont like the FRC and C5s dont appeal to me in the slightest.Make mine a ZR-1
Say what you will about a Z06 guys... its a phenomenal automobile & one of the Generals best. Theres nothing the Z06 doesnt do well. I'm on my second 2002. The first one I bought with very low miles on it and paid the premium price for in 06. The most recent one I got for around $20.6 with 75k miles on it. It looks like it has 35k miles on it and performs just the same. I'm the second owner.
You really cannot get one in the high teens (02-04) thats been cared for. I looked around pretty well for mine and like I said, it has 75k miles on it. The 01's are a little less money because of the less hp engines, but they still sell for $22k-$25k with decent miles and very good condition.
That said, I'm not saying its impossible to find a great deal on any Z06. But, the normal price tag for a nicer, low mile car seems to be between $23-27k (for the 02-04 cars)

I don't know, I used to say the same thing. I really like my c5 now though and I drive it daily. I think the key is to have a few models to satisfy all your driving requirements
The musclecar guys used to obsess about their cars going up in value.
Now they bitch because a 69 Z/28 is unaffordable and they are priced out of the hobby.
I hope the Zs stay cheap.

They won't but regardless It doesn't matter to me.

Which is part of the reason why I bought a ZR-1 in the first place. It provides quite a contrast to my 67 435HP coupe. C2s are very special cars, but I felt that I was missing something (from a Corvette hobbiest perspective) and my 95 C4/LT5 really fits the bill for me. Some benefits to the ZR-1:
1. You don't see C4s too often these days anymore (at least where I live).
2. It's surprising how exciting the C4 general design is. Sometimes with the "new" whatever always coming out, its easy to overlook how really special the design is, but with fewer on the road, they really stand out.
3. Even when C4s are around, few are ZR-1s.
4. It's still a kind of stealth supercar. Sure its a Corvette, but trust me, it's not the same as driving a 67 big block in terms of attention getting (even at a show with the clamshell open).
5. I love the seats in the later ZR-1s. They envelop you with that Connelly leather (yes the same leather as in Rolls Royces) and are both snug and comfortable. From the seat of my pants, a much more comforable design than the early ZR-1s.
6. Overall a very viceral car, but also a very modern sports car - even today (and certainly compared with my 67).
7. And there's something about the fat rear with the huge tires that really makes an impression.
I think with there only being about 6900 of these cars (and many of them already either high mileage or trashed), and only 1344 of these over 400HP, the remainder in a few years will become valuable like the some of the early Corvettes (but because of the stealth factor don't expect them to become valuable like 67s). The ZR-1 in Corvette history will be the car that returned performance to the marque. Sure the later Z06s and ZR1 will at some point become special too (but that will take some time given their high production numbers), but the ZR-1 will have been there first.

The only Zo6 I've ever driven was a 2008 atomic orange 505hp one. And it was sweet. No doubt about it. There's a guy in my club who bought a 95 c4 with 28,000 mile on it and he just won't shut up about it. I park the ZR-1 next to his and mine looks like it's on steroids ready to kick its azz and crap down its throat. His standard c4 looks like a substitute teachers car. This picture describes a standard c4 and the ZR-1 perfectly. However!
I would love to own a ZO6 someday. But I think I can get close to the Zo6's performance by modifying the ZR-1. Or at least make the power more scary.
I didn't buy my ZR1 as an investment. It is a car and I intend to drive it. I waited until two years ago when I decided that the bang for the buck was just too good to pass up and I picked mine up. I can see adding a Z06 to the garage in the near future as the bang for the buck on those cars is getting pretty good imo.

A standard C4 done right with wheels, tinted windows, exhaust and real nice paint is still a great looking car... the only part not quite right is the skinny rear end. I have also noticed putting the newer style rear facia on the 84 to 89 cars improves their appearance a good bit.

Maybe but its not just exterior that looks skinny and whimpy, the power is whimpy also. Back in 1996 I went to corvette country when I lived in austin Texas to test drive a 1994 vette. It was aqua green 300hp I was really interested in buying the car until I drove it. I was so unimpressed with the power that when the sales man sitting next to me said " She really hauls azz don't she" I just didn't want to hurt his feelings and tell him the truth. Years later I test drove a brand new SVT Cobra 325hp that would run circles around that 94 vette. But my 90 ZR-1 on the other hand would beech slap that Cobra. I notice the Cobra had a steep power curve and then it would just flatten out. Where as the Z pulls harder for much longer. Thats my experiance with the standard c4. I don't mean to hurt the standard c4 guys feelings but its just the cold hard truth. Sorry.
I have a 95 C4 Aqua Green nice car, I've not driven it in sense getting the Z. I have a bud at the gym, he tried to tell me that there really wasn't much difference between his 89 C4 and my 91 Z, after I finished laughing in his face I slapped him. Trust me he had it coming. ( The Kings honor must be defended at all cost)

Did you take your glove off one finger at a time before glove slapping his left and right cheek? I consider the ZR-1 a poor mans ferrari testarossa because thats basically what it is. Comparison notes= They both take 12 quarts of oil. The testarossa will do 0-60 in 5.0sec. The ZR-1 between 4.3 and 4.9 sec. The testarossa's top speed is 189mph. And the ZR-1's is 180mph. Pretty darn close performance wise. But we all know you can pick up a pretty nice ZR-1 in the mid $20,000 range. But you wont be able to touch a Ferrari testarossa for less than $75,000 today. I've always thought that the Testarossa was one of the best looking ferrari's ever made ever since I saw it appear on Miami Vice. If I get lucky one day I hope to have a Testarossa and a 67/68Shelby GT500. I already have the ZR-1 so I can at least check that one off my list.

Well, the ZR-1 at the time of unveiling was to compete with the Lamborghini Countach and the Ferrari Testarossa, so you're not too far off in comparing their similarities.

Exactly. Here's a little clip I found on its good points and bad points. This guy mentions the fact that it was built to race against the Lambo. But no mention of the ZR-1. I guess they left that little detail out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVo6DNJL9LM
