Unfortunately you have a very common problem with the head unit... CD component fails thus need to repair or replace head unit. As noted Doc Don is well known for BOSE repairs>>

The "squealing" issue sounds more like line feed coming from alternator (based on not making sound when engine is off)

thanks for the help...corvette central repairs head units for the 90 zr1 for half of doc dons...and i was wondering if anyone thinks that replacing the cooling fan/ speaker relay would help: because whats happening is when i turn it on there's a popping noise and the battery drains overnight, i heard that this could be corrected by replacing this relay...has anyone ever replaced it?

Another option is to call Ken Anderson at K&B Special Products, Tel 770-777-1031 in Alpharetta Ga. He specializes is repairing Corvette stereos, a/c controls and digital displays. He helped me out with my unit.
