Default 86 wheel in a 91?

Will an 86 steering wheel bolt up to the steering column in my 91?Ive got an N.O.S 86 wheel and ,well Ive never been a big fan of G.M.s early airbag systems.Id really like to bolt this 86 wheel in my car.I could have asked this over in general but I figure,I bug you guys enough why stop now

Bolt up, YES it should 'Bolt up'

my concern would be the back side trim and depth, of the trim on the 89 is as deep as the 91 wheel it should work fine.

No, I don't believe it will work, the 89 down uses a tilt column. You might try J&D Corvettes, I believe he might have a direct replacement. Otherwise it might be easier to just change the whole column.

I believe you meant "telescopic"!

-------------------------------------------

I don't believe you can change the entire column because the mast jacket support is in a different location. I had one of each (an '87 and a '90) side by side and I seem to recall noting that. I've sold the early to a fellow that's local and if he's not done the install I could maybe check again.
To use the early wheel on the later it would take quite a combination of parts to adapt the horn mechanicals, and the canceling cam to make it all function. I believe with patience, two columns plus access to several other combinations of cams etc you might be able to accomplish it. It might test your "talents"!!

NOW! Why would you even consider this? As "picky" as you seem to be and "profess" to be, I just don't understand. Sell the '86 NOS and buy a "fresh wrap" for the car! If the bag scares you just disable it! That's a simple chore.

I dont want to change the column.Other than repainting the side trim, which I should have finished in a few weeks, ive pretty much fixed all the blemishes in the car.The steering wheel in the cars got some deep scratches in it and I cant find a new one,I like this 86 wheel alot better than the 91 wheel.

As far as picky goes,If I dont like something Ill change it If its a simple enough job.I would never do anything to this car to diminish its value, unbolt this, put it in a box and forget it.Ive got an 84 that this wheel was intended for but that cars in hibernation so I wont be selling this wheel. As far as a rewrap goes I would consider this IF I could get my wheel back.Chances of that happening are pretty slim. The only thing that would kill this idea is the depth between the two wheel and the canceling cam swap.Testing my talents has already been pressed to the limits with the CDM removal awhile back.Somebody mentioned a guy that restores these 91 wheels for NCRS,sound familiar?...............On a side note when I put my feelres out there looking for an N.O.S steering wheel for this car I got a call from somebody that had one complete.................$3,000.
