Default Gatorback tires = collector item?

My "new" 90 Z apparently has the original "gator-back" tires on it. They are somewhat dry rotting - cracking some - and are slated for replacements.

However, I read somewhere there may be a market for these ol' skins, no? Someone that might be interested in these tires in this condition was news to me. Can anyone shed some light on this? What might they be worth? (I guess I shouldn't leave 'em at the tire store, huh?)

TIA,

P.

I hope not -- I just pitched mine -- they had 4000k on them and looked brand new... I assumed that after this long they were useless... let's hope so!

I sold my GS-C's for $350 shipped. They had ~75% tread left and were not dry-rotting or cracked, they also were from about 2000 or so, not 1990.

I would think your Gatorbacks would be worth something to someone.

They are useful to show. I would hope no one would ever try and drive at any rate of speed on them.

What's NCRS up to about 1992?
They are valuable to someone who wants to top flight their ZR1

The original wheels and tires are in storage from the 93 LSV. They look as new but are as hard as a rock. Kind of like driving on ball bearings. It would be a handful to drive the car with those tires on it.

The gatorbacks are definitely worth some money to guys who want to show the car. Save 'em and sell 'em!

If there is anything to learn from the older, collectible vettes, it is that you should NEVER throw anything out that is original to the car.
