I am looking at a 90 with 134k on it that was maintained well. The story goes, the previous owner was the owner of a GM Dealership & and had the engine gone through for any LT5 "upgrades" that were done after 1990.....I'm guessing timing chain rattle was addressed & the current owner said the injectors were all replaced....not really sure what else was done. The guy did say that Mark Haibeck gave the car a clean bill of health at some point.....and actually did work on the car at some point.
Car was repainted but wasnt wrecked or damaged. New tires, fairly new clutch & new suspension bushings (not sure to what extent).
What doesnt work or is missing:
ride control shocks are replaced w/reg Bilstiens
no spare tire carrier or spare
no original wheels to go with the sale
CE light comes on sometimes (o2 sensor)
Low air pressure for the tires light comes on sometimes
Driver airbag switch or sensor is bad (guy says a cost of about $300.??)
The car is on the Registry for $14k plus a Grand to get it here. What do you guys think about this one? I've looked at a bunch of cars for about a year now & it almost seems the higher mile/lower priced cars are a better deal/value than the lower mile/higher priced cars.
That seems especially true if you want a driver & not a show piece. I have looked at cars that are so nice, I wouldnt want to load the miles up on them. Something like this seems like a good candidate for some headers, and a chip for a little more umph...and what I would call a "no guilt" driver to have fun with.
thoughts......
Thanks & sorry about the long post

Reason: sp & more info
the only expensive thing is the shock situation. 800 for shocks 1200 for actuators. but that is up to you if you want the fx3. I would have him replace the o2 sensors to make sure thats whats causing the ck eng light . did you scann the car to ck for codes . i have a 90 with 138k i inherited from my step brother . he did headers porting and gears . boy is this car fun. the price seems very good if the motors ok . you might want to see if you can be allowed to pull the plugs .they will tell if the motors fairly sound. if everthing good you have a very good deal . from what i have seen. i am a new owner too and i love these cars.
I wish I could look at it first hand....too far away. I have been in contact with the owner via Email only. I will give him a call today & chat further about the car. My next move will be seeing if theres anyone near the car who would look at it for me.
The way he has written the ad would make me VERY leery. I wouldn't even think about buying that one without seeing it in person and having a long talk with the owner. The $500-$1000 it would cost would be very good insurance. JMO
Well, the first thing I'd probably do is to Call Marc up and confirm that part of the story. Then maybe see if there is anyone local that can check it out for you?
Find out which of the things you'd want to fix on it, and how much they will cost. Then see if there are cars in that total price range you like better. Doesn't sound like a bad car though IF it is as described.

PASS for 3K more you can get a better deal that is "right".
I would look at other ZR1s out there. The high mileage doesn't bother me but the other things does. It will nickel and dime you if you fix it all. Well, in this case it's a ZR1, it's not nickel and dime.....it will be 100 bills coming out of your wallet. Maybe 11k for the car then spend the rest to the parts needed.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was considering stepping up a couple a grand & looking for a little less used one. I was reading another post though, and remember the advice I was given a year ago when I started my search......I was told the low mile cars will need injectors right away & may have vacuume issues....I understand why that is, so I started looking for a higher mile car that has had all the problem areas fixed.
I am really trying to be a "good boy" & be as frugal as possible....I love the idea of a super low mile car that looks perfect, but I wouldnt want to stack up the miles on a garage queen gem..... It seems like the cars that have 30-50k miles on them are so close in price to the ones with 20-30k.....but then you have to wonder about the injector problem, vac pumps & hoses & dry rotted tires on those cars.
Theres a 91 on E---.....that I was looking at in Florida. BIN price is 17.5 92k miles supposed 2 owner car. I really love the red guts I havent called up to talk to them yet, but I may on Monday.
The part he didn't tell you is how much money he has spent to get it to where it is now. I believe it is in turnkey driving condition now... is that correct Ron ?
Is this car the one in NH? If so I have seen it driving by where I work..
but I have not seen it close up...
What are you looking for? My 90' may be going up for sale (I have been tossing around selling it for a couple years... but then come to my senses and keep it...)
