Default Parking Brake Problem

The parking brake on my 94 Z won't engage. I pull the handle up, there's plenty of pressure, like the brake is engaging, I don't hear any ratcheting and the handle never "catches". When I let it back down, it has the reverse amount of pressure, like the brake is dis-engaging. The brake light also illuminates on the dash while pulling up and turns off on the way down.

Am I doing something wrong, or do I have a problem? Just thought I'd ask here first before I pull the seat out and get all into it.

Thanks,
Rick L.

I am assuming you are pulling up with the release button NOT engaged and returning the handle to the floor with the button NOT engaged.

If so you should feel engagement pulling up and it should "free wheel" as you move the handle out of the way by pushing it back to the floor.

To disengage just pull up with the button NOT engaged until you feel pressure, then Press the button while pulling up just a bit, hold the button and return the handle to the floor and you're all set to rip it to7000RPM

If you depress the buton on the way up and down it will disengage the brake. Sounds like that might be what you are doing.

Or if your operating it correctly... crud gets stuck around the ratcheting mechanism along with Old Grease they tend to stick…Pull the seat and take the cover off and clean it up.
