Default Best way to lift a Z

I need to bleed the rear brakes. What's the best way to lift the rear up?

Definately that! There are little diamonds on the rocker panel that show the lift points. Miss and you can poke a hole in the floor.

Two floor jacks is preferred.

Either
1) One on each side lifting evenly
2) Two on one side tilting front and rear together evenly.

But a Jack-A-Vette works well under the rear as well. If using a floor jack go under the frame just in front of the rear tires and you'll see two vertical frame rails. Place the jack pad centered under one side and lift. Then replace inboard of the jack pad with a jack stand. Repeat for other side. Be sure to set the parking brake, put in a low gear and chock the front tires. Finally give it a good shake prior to going underneath. If it falls down at least no one is underneath it!

Always leave the doors ajar when using a floor jack.

find the spots on the sides ner the riangles that are on the rocker panel.

then just get under there and make sure you are jacking on the frame lip that is under the car, not on the fiber glass.

I have jacked up many a C4 over the years and never had a problem at all with leaving the car completely buttoned up hood closed doors cloesd and hatch closed I usually get them up pretty high on the jackstands lift one side up first then the other pretty simple really

stick the jack under the car at the diamonds, jack up, put a jackstand under, do your work

I would want everything as structurally stable and intact as possible, which would mean doors closed, top on! I wouldn't hesitate to open doors after it is level, and top on though.

The doors are not a structural part of the car. The fact that it has hinges on one end and a latch on the other may appear to some of you as a structural part of the car, but it's not. When you use a floor jack, on any corner, as oppose to using it under your Dana 44, you end up slightly twisting the chasis. With the doors close, all your doing is putting stress on the hinges and on the latch. I've studied the structural design of the C4, and understand it quite well. Now, if some of you find this silly, please continue doing it in the way that makes you happiest.
