Default Secondaries???

Our low mile 91 garage-hog has an awesome seat of the pants feel when the secondaries kick in. Our high mile 91 track-rat runs great but has no feeling that they're coming on. Like I said it runs great and we have no problem holding our own with the other ZR-1's and Z06's.

My question-- Is there a simple way of determining whether or not they are working properly other that scanning or dynoing it? Or is there something secondary related I can disconnect without throwing a code that will cause it to be a slug and verify that the secondaries are working?

EDIT both are bone stock other than a Haibeck chip for fan control and key on in the racer.

Try a burnout, if you can't get a smoking burnout, the secondaries are not working

Power key! Turn it off, you'll feel the difference!

I asked for simple and I got simple! Isn't it strange how easy it is to over think something like this?

Wasn't sure if that could be done with the Haibeck chip. That will be the first thing I'll try.

Now, where did I put that damn power key?

THANKS!

The only way I new for sure was by removing the plenum to see how they felt by hand . I removed them completely so I could sleep better at night and the car hits harder then ever!

When I removed them I pulled the shaft out that the secondaries bolt to and I was amazed by how rough and bound up the bearings that hold/pivot the secondaries felt compared to a brand new one that I had in my tool box! I'm sure that when the engine warms up they may move a little better........but if I left the secondaries in, I would have replaced the shaft/bearings with brand new ones to be 100% sure of the opening process.

Yeah but then you need that silly little tool to mess with the secondary shaft probably cost $500 from kent moore tools, Thats what the secondary plate tools cost insainity at its finest!

This may sound a little barbaric...........after I removed the IH's I used a needle nose style set of vise grips with some gentle taps on the handle and they came right out and I plugged them with some small freeze plugs from autozone!

I'm sure they have some pricey tool to do that procedure with but it is not needed for this fun/little shadetree Zr1 customization.

Thats not barbaric ive done worse

but you should be able to rotate the secondaries in a complete circle and I havent been able to do that on a LT5 yet they all stop at some point.

Maybe some carb cleaner in there
