Default Which bring up the question....

What is the best way to store parts ?
I'm getting a 2nd engine to play with, but for any parts, I would
think humidity and dust would be the only real enemies.
I mean, what does cast iron(edit cast iron/aluminum) care if its chilly or hot ?
My first thought is store the engine on a stand or pallet inside a plastic "bubble" with silicon drying packets to remove humidity.
For rotating parts, occasionally turn them over/regrease 'em.
Advice/options/opinions ????

Also...anyone ever see a LT5 in a C5 ? Why you ask....welllll
There is a really good kit car co. (is it factory five...can't remember offhand) that has a great looking rig that uses all C5 parts (except for a Porsche transaxle). OK I know....but if you're dreaming why not think of one with the beast in it.

If your motor is complete, GM reccommends you "fill" it to the top with oil for long term storage. Other iron parts should be oiled or greased and sealed in plastic.

not quite true. the block has some iron in the main saddle bores which will indeed rust. chevy insisted on this even though Lotus argued it wasn't necessary. cams are chilled iron, rods are steel, bolts, ect.

filling the entire engine with oil isn't a bad idea, but most just lightly oil the liners and bag it. keeping it inside sure does help as does the dry bags to get rid of any moisture in the air.

keep in mind all the 94/95s had "old new" engines that sat around a long time after the production run in 93 when they last prod lt5s were built. they came out OK
