Default The King is still the King !

Well, when is GM going to get off their collective a$$ and reset the 24 hour record ? Isn't 505+ hp and some tweaks going to get it past 187 mph for the duration? Having VW retake the record and not produce the car makes it an empty record imho... not to demerit the VW record all that much, because it was no easy feat to accomplish.
Part of being a world leader is setting World Records... It has only taken how many years to produce a Corvette that is head and shoulders above "The King" ? Two platforms later and still no rewriting in the record books for the 24 Hour Record. Yes, the C5 and C6 have exceeded and won more races in other arenas, and I respect that... Perhaps it is better that "The King" of Corvettes remain the King of the 12 records set in 1990 though many have fallen since then.

Nothing to gain, and everything to lose.

GM had to do it with the ZR-1. The amount of attention it would get if it failed would be massive.

Also I don't think it could do it.

i would be willing to bet that they have already tried it very quietly quite afew times at some track somewhere, and that if it was even remotely close they would have gone for it right at the introduction.

my guess is it might have 505 hpwr, and all of this neat sophisticated technology, and i would love to have one, but without that bullet proof LT-5 powerplant, it just is not tough enough to go after that record.

Long Live the King!

Default C5 - C6 Winning Races

I get up very early every day. Tune into the Speed channel. There are many races from everywhere. When the races come on with Corvettes and other cars, it is 90% Corvettes and 10% everything else.

Am I missing something here? Is there races with the Vettes there is an equal amount of the other brands ?

It appears from the collection of comments above here that we still won't have a new King for a while...

As far as the Corvette entries vs all others it seems that our beloved Corvette has many cost / performance advantages over the competition. I doubt anybody has ever built 90 million engines as GM has done with the SBC. So, the SBC has proven itself, pushrods and all...

On a different note... The wife wants a Beemer, I say no, you get a CTS with a small block or forgetaboutit !
