WOW - that is the biggest pile of bs I've ever heard!! Fastest street vette is still the sledgehammer @ 254.54 mph!
what about your C5 TT?
the ZR-1 doesnt have a good enough coefficient of drag to hit that #.
i have the vid with the sledgehammer dwight, when we meet i will bring it over if you havent seen it. it's a sweet video, it's kind of like a home video. reeves, and john like so young in it......

I will give you the fact that a stock bodied ZR-1 with no suspension tuning is a big factor. A tricked out body is a different matter... ala the Sledgehammer even without the rear widebody...
To hit 273 mph will take more than 1000+hp to the wheels... Just look what it took Gale Banks to go 300 mph in that old door slamming Firebird...

Can you make copies of thet video? If so I would gladly pay you for a copy.
238-mph is the advertised speed of Mallet's TT ZR1, it was 1 of 1. He actually extended the frame by 5 or 6-inches in the front to accomodate the turbos and plumbing. Not sure what the HP of the car was, rumored to be anywhere between 1000 and 1300-HP, also not sure how the motor was built up.

It was a blue ZR1 with a black LT5.
Mallets also built an orange twin turbo ZR-1 for a gentleman from Soiux Falls but I don't know what became of it. It had a lot of special lightwieght body panels and a large wing on the rear. It was in Vette magazine January 1997. He has a nice collection of cars including an early Mallet 435 coupe and one of the Black Widow ZR-1's.
Very interesting and humble beiginnings on the start of Reeves Callaway's company. Reeves seems pretty down to earth to me in contrast to what I have heard people say about him.
Now, if somebody would crank down the wastegates on a TT-LT5 and give it a shot at the track in Ohio or some other decent high speed track... it would be interesting to see the top speed on that combo with the right gearing.
Does anybody know what tires they ran on the "Top Gun" and "Sledgehammer" cars for those speed trials ?
I love that nose on the "Top Gun" gun car ! That chassis tuning and nose down attitude looked perfect on the 231 mph pass !

He is one of the nicest people I know

the "theoretical" top-speed of the Callaway Super Speedster (w/ roof) was 300mph. It was a TT LT5
