Default #28 History Help

Anyone involved with the early release Z's please chime in if you can provide assistance (Mr. Townsley?). Here's what I have so far...build sheet showing the car was sent to Chevy's Central Office and shipped to GM Service Development Center, GM Tech Center, Warren, MI. Test sticker with OPR 194 indicated. Mr. Jim Perkins name is in the owners manual. Car was Red and painted Polo Green, I have documents that indicate that this was the test car for the Polo Green paint but not from GM. I've contacted the NCM and haven't received any replies. So, if you can help out please point me in the right direction. Trying to find out if Mr. Perkins had the car, was it really a test vehicle and what did they test. The history hunt has been fun but, ready to find the missing links. thanks

#28 still hanging around!

The first zr1 sold to public was # 18 so # 28 was a standard production unit that will be difficult to trace. You can do a carfax to get a sense of where it was registered and from there try to ferit out its history. If you have a good relationship with a Chev service type he can pull up the maintenance records, it might give you some hints. GM is not inclined to share information on any cars used within the corperation. I also doubt any documentation of that nature will be released to the NCM. You might get lucky talking to ex GM employees who would talk about them. Good luck.

Tyler, thanks for the input. I guess that makes Mr. Rick Hendrick the owner of #18. I talked with him about it a few years back and he said he purchased the first available Z and put it in his museum. I have the car fax info. and I know the second owner from CA. The first owner was an Orange County Lawyer who apparently purchased the car directly from GM. I also have a software package installed behind the radio that has the test vehicle number on it as well. Not sure on what it has or how to download information that it may contain. That might be my next longterm project. Is there anything on the build sheet that could provide some insight...lots of #'s on the sheet and I haven't got a clue as to what many of them mean. thanks

Not sure what you are talking about. Is this a disk, prom, ???? Chev keeps car information in its own computer system that can be accesed by the maintenance technicans. My car is listed in that system as destroyed or donated vehicle. It might have some internal GM information about your car. This information is not listed in the carfax system.
