Default Just learned I need new Head Gasket Cost: $2800!!

While driving, all the coolant came out of my car. I pulled over immediately. When I added water, it all came straight out somewhere near the back of the engine. It was towed to Chevy who said the did a nitrogen test on it and said it needs a new head gasket and will cost $2800! "And the ZR1 needs special tools." Does this sound right? Any mechanics in NJ who can work on ZR1?
thanks

Damn...if special tools really are needed I'd send it to a ZR1 specialist only.

I have the tools to do this job and if you want to fly me up ill be cheaper than Jeff since he is in washington and im in North Carolina.

Or bring your car down and I can do it here.

and yes I have done many top ends!

as for the cost ill charge you $50 a hour you need to buy the gaskets but I can get them all for you!

I agree, have John do it. The parts are cheap, it's just the time involved to do it.

If you need a freeze plug let me know i have a few i'll send one out to you FREE.
Cost zero dollars just your time to pull the motor.

Hell while your at it may as well do some cams and head work, or more :-) If you really want to go hog wild you can have someone do some bigger cubes for you :-) Look on the bright side, this is an opportunity to get into the weeds with the motor and learn more about them.

That's cool Phrogs. Nice of you to volunteer your time. Money is not an issue here, but your time is worth something. Having someone qualified like you is the biggest benefit of all.

Default flatbed

Ouch, when I shipped mine from Ill to NJ it went on like the smallest incline I ever saw and it hit...I am so scared of flatbeds...

If it were me I would let Phroggs do it, he is getting kudos from othr peeps and Vette Dr's although I hear they are great is gonna set you back quite a bit before u get there

But then again who knows....good luck dude, I will be watching and if I knew more than how to change oil or wiper blades I would help u out.
