Default LA based TT/Supercharged Z builder-Believe it!

Stumbled across a shop while searching for someone to bend me up some tubing and came across Tom Nelson-(Nelson Racing Engines)Has a customer's 91 he's doing a pretty stout 380 TT setup for a customer, a white Z w/ a belt driven supercharger setup, does some pretty trick stuff. Sounds like he may want to get to know some of you, Jeff, Mike, etc. Has a good custom cam source, in house dyno, thought I'd share this info with you guys especially you tuners, maybe you can collaborate to some degree. He has a link to this thread, pm me for his email/ph. #, you guys take it from there.
This guy's headers were first rate, btw!

That's what I said. The turbo may be out of range for me, but a bolt on SC kit with a management system may be a possibility down the road. It just gets better and better!

No one, to my knowledge, has ever built a SCed ZR-1

a good custom intake and the new big screw chargers kenne bell should be good for around 800 hp and would work if you are willing to go with a high riser hood which would look pretty mean IMHO.

the big stuff 3 or similar engine management with the stock ecm and sensors in place to run the dash would be pretty cool IMHO

you would likely need some pretty fancy programing but there is a number of shops that could do it. would be killer.

bring lots of money and hopefully a low compression engine with the sleeves running into grooves in the head to stabilize it all.

the tt option is still better but largely made out of unobtanium unless you want to do some serious work.

I think if we made a decent box plenum under the supercharger with an intercooler sandwitched in there you would really have something

a ton of work to be sure but very cool.

I always thought about laying the radator down and installing a centrifugal S/C reversed like they used to do the alternators on the L98 Paxton kits...

I think it would work.

why not make a roots blower that replaces the plenum/ih and be done with it

The Kenne Bell screw charger would actually work pretty easily if you can do some fabrication! And it wouldn't be that hard either.

The hardware isn't too much of a problem theoretically, but the calibration is a different matter altogether. I'd love to know how the stock LT5 ECM has been used in boosted applications. Heck I'd just like to know what's in the program code.

That would be a nice X'mas present Tyler ;-)

cause the kb blower is more efficient and the inlet plumbing easier to manage. calibration IMHO should be done with an aftermarket computer and the wide band sensor. I always have toyed with just doing the secondaries to retain the factory ecm for emissions and driveability and let the aftermarket ecm just take the secondaries for fuel enrichment under boost.

it would be a pretty cool project.

Ok, I'm going to be the wrench once again.... Why would you want to do this to a LT5? The open deck structure and stock high compression really doesn't lend itself to forced induction without extensive modifications. If you want to make big power just throw a little spray at it and be done. With most of you being ZR1 purests (god save the queen), why would you want to destroy a very collectible Z by cutting it up and doing things that will make it non-original? Just keep your mods reversible and in a couple years put it back to stock and sell your Z for $200,000-300,000 when the market comes back for these rare pieces of automotive history. BTW, the SRT-8 Jeep I plan to buy as soon as they come out will put more power to the ground than a Z, sorry.

flame suit on....

Oh Tony - don't forget though - that same Jeep puts more power to the ground than your coupe as well, since A) the damn thing doesn't run and B) you can't hook the power if it did. Top that!

You're right.. it doesn't run.... IT SCREAMS!!!!!!!!!! You should see my lovely chain drive... works like a champ!!!!!!!!! (until it comes through the hood someday... but that will be kindof cool to see...).

I can hook it up... My right foot is like a precision CNC machine that has been programmed to pedal/modulate!!!! Did I mention my numbers are on pump gas....?

Yep all done with it. I should take some pictures. I don't have any numbers yet using the chain drive.. I've got to build a couple of chain guards first as to not prematurely customize my hood. I could build a chain drive for a ZR1 supercharger specific application... under the Unicorn Racing name brand of course.

I also want to build a set of large headers with electric dumps. The next time I head to the dyno i'm hitting 1000rwhp or....well... I'm just going to that's all...

So - have you run her up to 6K rpms yet? How does she pull? Well, I'm guessing! As for them electric cut-outs - I agree with ya - a man has got to have a set of them bad boys for intimidation - cause a 1000 rwhp big block with a blower through a B+B system just isn't loud enough!

I want a ride man! I'll race ya! Chose the weapon you want to race - it doesn't really matter cause I'll be hooking, and you'll be spinning!

It has decent pick up with the cop motor, cop suspension, cop tires and cop brakes. The cop cut-outs are for relieving backpressure.. not sound enhancement.

You don't really want to race me mister. Besides, I really don't have the heart to see a grown man such as yourself cry like a baby while being surrounded by all of your fancy swancy store-bought horsepower. You'd best throw a big shot on that bike and bring it just to make sure you have a chance.
