Mine set me back ~$1000, Stainless Works. Look up Mr. Crowley on the forum, he can hook you up!

I have Stainless Works Headers. I paid about 950 a few years ago. Your only other choice is Jeal which I think will set you back about 1500 if you can find a pair.

I think Corey Henderson in San Antonio has a pair of Jeal headers.

I got my Stainless Works(Alspaugh) headers from Brian Alspaugh, I think for about $850.00, he then sent them directly to Swain Technologies to have them "coated" & they sent them on to me.

Corey is out of the Jeal headers and they were in the $1500 area, Brian can no longer sell the headers for his price it is now $1000 for a set of his headers made by stanless steal works.

Mcrowley is your best bet at $1000 and they are well worth it!

Am I wrong, or are the headers McCrowley sells also the Stainless Steal Works pieces originally commissioned by Mr. Alspaugh?

You are absolutely correct. Watson did it first, Jeal copied Watson, Alspaugh copied Watson (or Jeal if you want). They all be the same deal!

Hey all:

Feel free to shoot me an email re: any header inquiries you may have. I also can't figure out if McCrowley and I are at the same price, how he is the best bet?!?!?! I must not understand the statement...

Exactly the point of my post Same price, same product. Brian's went to a lot of trouble to work with Stainless Works and give us an alternative to the $1500 Jeals after Watson quit making LT5 headers. He's okay in my book.

Installed a set of Brians headers on the 91 last summer, great fit and finish. A super guy to do business with, answered all my emails promptly. 84 CF 91 ZR1

I have told you and told you the header evolution and you still tell it wrong.

True, Watson was the first as they fabbed the original stock headers. They were fabbed not as a true mandrel bend set but rather a series of mandrel bends all welded together to make the pipes. Not pretty but functional and very often did fit and required a lot of heating, bending, and fitting. I don't recall the guys name there who actually made them but he retired or left there about four years ago. Jeals were NOT a copy of the Watsons. How do I know? I was there. It was John Twomy's car that was used as the mockup and a basically bare block for the fitment. This was the first true all mandrel bend system except for one pipe that their machine could not make the bend and an extra weld was incorporated. These were very well made and most (all I mounted fit exactly) would fit but I can't claim all as I don't know.

Where Stainless Works got involved was in 1997 or 1998. Bill Kichhofer and I had been talking about getting some headers made here in the US at a lesser cost. Bill met the people from stainless works at the PRI show and started working with them. Their initial indication was we could have some made for a cost to us of $550.00 to $600.00 a set. Bill took some Jeal headers to Stainless Works for them to have a look at and see what they can do. In November of that year Bill, Geoff, and I met in Las Vegas to go over some things where Bill brought some examples of their work. Both Geoff and I thought that they did not match up to the quality we wanted. The welds were very poor in quality and fitment stunk. Bill did go ahead and do some more work with Stainless Works even to the point of producing either one or two prototype sets. One of these sets is still on his car and we did use a set for they engine dyno testing of the big inch motor with the huge cams. What happened next I can't say for sure. All I know is that Bill dropped the Stainless Works project and went on to other things and Stainless works confirm they tried contacting Bill but never received any acknowledgements to their calls.

Brian contacted Stainless works later about making some headers. How he came to their company Brian can answer. Whether they started with a clean piece of paper or used what they had done with Bill as a starting point (business wise it would have been adventageous for them to do so for sure) maybe Brian can answer or maybe even he doesn't know for sure either. Either way we know that they did have previous experience with Bill and had used the Jeal headers he brought to them as a pattern to start from.

Did Jeal copy Watson? No. Did Stainless Works copy Jeal? We know they started out that way but we can't say whether they persued this avenue or tossed the paper out the window and started anew. Does it really matter at the end of the day? No, everybody copies everybody and then denies it to their last breath. It does bother me when people get the story wrong however.
