Default Recommended Spark Plugs?

Hello,
I just replaced the cap and rotor on my '90 today and I want to change the plugs too. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good set of plugs that don't cost a lot? Also I was wondering if all L98's have aluminum or iron heads? Thanks.

I belive that you have iron heads.
As for plugs it depends on what is done to the motor.
I as do many here run NGK TR6's because of the nitrous and some run those because of SC's. But if you're not running any of that a good set of plantum plugs would be good.

L-98's went to aluminum heads in late 86, so that's what you should have. The aluminum heads have center bolt valve covers too.

I put a set of AC Delco (R43 or R45, can't remember) plugs in my '85. The car runs fine with them.

If running stock ignition components just use stock style AC Delco plugs.

If you want a little more efficient burn cut back the ground electrodes and use stock gap, details on my site.

I put on 10k miles per year and several hundred passes down the 1/4 mile so I check/regap mine every 6mo. If you don't drive a lot of miles nor drag race you might get by with checking gap every few years. For example my IROC doesn't see much highway time nor the strip these days so the cut-backs hold gap for 3-4 yrs.

i remember reading that some plugs come in different lengths. on a stock head you should use the ac recommended plug. i have seen after market head manufacturers recommend a specific plug brand and number for their particular head. i would assume if this info is correct, then this assures proper ignition. when purchasing aftermarket heads, it may be wise to ask which plug is recommended. now heat range is a different topic.
