Coolant leak diagnose...how to check for head gasket
having a leaking coolant system is not fun as the best of times.. this thread for problem heres how i found the leak:
1.. did a coolant pressure test...
2.. use the Universal Block Leak Test kit...
3..inspected plugs 5&7..why? becuz of the issue with GM in 89-90
this simple test will tell you immediately if there is a combustion leak check it out here: universal combustion leak tester Uniserval Block test KIT and here for instruction: hot to test for leaks
in my opion, pressure testing the system will tell you if you have a leak.
The Block Check is A positive solution to gasket failure ( if there is one)where by it detects combustion gases and can be used to pin point which bank has failed...i hope this helps all those that are having trouble with cooling system and suspect head gasket failure in thier 89-91 L98
happy hoildays to all

3.. A compression test.
Too bad that you have a head gasket to replace, but it's good you know what the problem is.

I got the HS 7733 PT-15 gasket set just so you know. Has intake manifold, exhaust manifold, head, and valve covers. Set me back $59.99 at Checker.
Edit: I also had to buy the intake runner gaskets. Those were $12 at Pepboys.
