'86 offset and tire sizes for aftermarket wheels??

'86 offset and tire sizes for aftermarket wheels??
I'm looking at aftermarket wheels for my '86 coupe. I understand I need to be conserned with the offset buying aftermarket wheels. I'm now looking at either 17's or even 18's but most likely the 17x9.5 all around so I can rotate the tires. either way front nad rear will be the same size. I'm sure 18's are out of my budget range. Also, tire sizes.... I want something wide. Please help, I'll be making a purchase with in a month. 
1.Can some one help me with the stock offset or where to find it?
2.Is there a certain offset I need to stick with or a "range" of offset that will work?
3. Tire sizes 245/45ZR17, 255/45ZR17 or other suggestion?

Stock offset is 38mm for the 9.5" rim.
I run Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s in a 275 size on my GS 9.5" rims. Its the best size for that rim width, but you can use 285.
Rim offsets need to be close to 38mm if you want to use them without a spacer plate.

What is the stock offset for a '88+? So, I have a better idea where I stand with aftermarket off set. The wheels I'm looking at have a +35mm offset.

88-96+ have a 56mm offset, so you'd need a spacer plate.

OK, here's the hot tip!
You have the same offset as my '87. We are fortunate to have a slightly narrower track than later C4's. If you put later model offset wheels on you '86 you can run 315/35/17ZR's and have the right "look" because they don't stick out from the wheel wells as it would if you used the accepted offset. And the extra grip from 12.4" of rubber from each tire makes an incredible handling improvement, with the right alignment specs.
On the down side, 315's are a lot more expensive than 255's. My Michelin Pilot Sports cost $350 each retail. But man, whatta ride!

Look here at http://www.afswheels.com/v2/ecommerc...ayproducts.asp for AFS Wheels for ZR-1 style wheels in chrome, polished, silver paint or black. They have wheels with a custom offset just for 84-87 cars. They have both 17x9.5 and 17x11 wheels that will work.
The 315/35-17 tires look nice in the rear, but there are fewer and fewer tire makers offering that size. Go to the Tire Rack website www.tirerack.com and plug in that tire size in their search function to get an idea of what is out there. With different size tires, you lose the ability to rotate tires for longer tread life.
The "usual" tire size for the 17x9.5 rim is 275/40-17 and for the 17x11 wheel is 315/35-17. 285/40-17 tires will work fine on the 9.5 wheel too.
AFS will also have wheels and wheel/tire combos on eBay from time to time. You can save some money by going this route or you can buy direct from them.
