who hates their stock brakes?
im driving down a nice semi windey road, get in a few corners pretty hard, start to smell the brake heat up, nothing unusual. get to the next corner and push the brakes hard as a rock and not slowing down. now i have a good set of brake pads on and a decent set of aftermarket rotors. i had a 90 vette before this a i had the 13" brakes on it and i never had a problem stopping when i drove them hard.
my question beside how stoned the engineers were when they designed they brakes is what can i do (without spending 3k) to improve my brakes so i dont kill myself.

I had a similar experience with mine, they would heat up and quit working right. I changed the brake fluid ( to remove moisture) and switched the front rotors over to slotted/cross drilled Brembo's and the heat/problem was corrected. My biggest problem was high brake temps were boiling the fluid. If you never replaced the brake fluid, try that first. Then look at your brake booster, it may be getting tired. I hope this helps.
Oh yeah, the brakes on Corvettes are typically very good when working properly.

I'm not particularly fond of them, no.
In about 2-3mos, I should be able to do C5 Brakes.

Brake fluid can be a problem if it is old or has been heated consistently. Look at the reservoirs, if the fluid is gray or worse, it needs to be changed.

The system is assuming you already have the 13" front rotors so that would be an extra expense for you. I am not sure if anything more would have to be done because you have a 91.

If you already have 17" A Mold or C5 wheels, you can do a conversion to C5 brakes for less than $600.00
Ed Salinas, a member here has the adapters, C5 roters and calipers are around $ 200 per wheel and then the pads are your choice.
I got my C5 stuff in C5 parts for sale for less than $ 75 per wheel
You don't need to convert the rears since there is no substantial difference between C5 and C4 rear brakes
Installing the DRM proportioning spring will also add to your enjoyment

They definitely don't work worth a crap if you only have 14" of manifold vacuum. Early C4 rotors are also very susceptible to warping. Even in stock form, I think that's unacceptable.
