what will it take to convert early to late opti spark?
What parts will i need to convert my 94 opti-spark to a 95 opti-spark?
I notice that the 94 and earlier opti-sparks are as much as $100.00 + more than the 95 and later opti-spark. so is this conversion doable? is it worth the expense?
Thanks boonie

Boonie,
Do you mean the whole opti or just the newer vented cap?
If you want to change the whole opti you will also need to change the timming cover as it has a different type of mount to the cam. (I don't know if the cam is also different).
If you want to just convert to a vented opti you will have to modify the opti to accept vacum hoses(the 3 vent holes on the bottom need to be drilled to accept a plastic nipple so you can attached the vacum lines). Your cap will also need to be modified to accept a vacum hose or you can buy a newer style cap.
Then pick up vacum from your manifold and fresh air from the air intake. GM sells the vacum lines with valve.
Another option might be a Delteg conversion.
Good luck,
Steven

cam is also different, i ran into this on mine. in my case i was so far alond in the process, i just ground the pin in the newer opti that goes into the cam shorter so that it would fit with the original cam. i have about 10k miles like this so i think it's ok...

Go here to find a solid state replacement for the Opti-Spark. You can leave the old unit in, install this setup, and be in business without ever having to worry about distributor again. http://www.delteq.com/opti_stage1.htm
Or, if you really want to upgrade, go here. http://www.corvettedoctor.com/C4_optispark.htm
They supply the complete upgrade kit. Good luck with your baby!
