Took My Frisbee Off Today: No Pain & Very Little Gain.
My frisbee came off very easily today ['88 coupe].
It weighed exactly 8.5 Lbs.
The engine looks much neater & I'm glad to get rid of the extra weight.
The engine runs smooth without it, I'll keep it off.
But, the gains are very little, at least not much that I can notice.
The claims of a 10 HP gain are an exaggeration [IMO].

Make sure that if you left the original studs in the water pump that you put washers on. The shoulder of the stud stops the nut from bottoming out. I had abizzare noise going on - that's what it ended up being.

Feeling a 10HP gain is a lot more difficult than most people think it is...if you really wanted to see any gains you would either need to dyno it or take it to the track.

:iagree:
The claimed gains are indeed based on normalized trap speed data from repeated passes down the 1/4 mile.
Your SOTP "dyno" won't likely detect a 10chp increase; at least mine isn't that sensitive.

It's a metal disc (forms vary over years) bolted to the front of the water pump pullen on '88-'91 Vette; see my site for a pic of one version and other details.

Hi,
Before I even consider pulling mine of my '91 with auto, I want to know why GM put it on. There must be some reason why this 8 1/2 lb chunk of iron was bolted onto our cars?

olefam, check out the writeup on my site.
I wanted to remove the "frisbee" soon as I got my Vette, but was reluctant till "Mr C4" himself gave me the scoop on it.
