car dies when maf is disconnected ?????
as the title says, ive had idle problems and partial throttle stumble/knocking with my 1994, ive replaced the plugs , wires, coil, fuel filter, o2 sensors...its throwing no codes. i just bought a opti and am getting it installed this saturday..
ive read in here that if you have a idle problem and a suspect maf you disconnect it and if it gets better then you have a bad maf...what does it mean when you disconnect it and the car just dies..(tried it twice)
thanks

It won't run without the MAF. The MAF senses airflow and tells the system what's going on. If I remove mine, it MIGHT idle, but as soon as I step on the throttle it dies. That's normal.

I too have read that about testing the MAF on an L98 and mine also died when I disconnected the MAF.
The only way I've found to reliably test the MAF is by substitution. Luckily the MAF from my '86 IROC is exactly the same as the one in the '88 Vette.

ya, as soon as i disconnect the plug, it dies.......i guess if there was something wrong with it , it would idle better?
